“Penny” Make Dollars in My Charmer Handicap

GP 9    My Charmer Handicap (GIII)

  $100.000     3yo&Up  F&M          1m  InTuf   3yo 120 lbs   Older 123 lbs  +penalties

Four lengths from front to back… that tells you that the My Charmer Hcp (GIII) was a very competitive field of ladies and Angelos Stable’s Pennys Pearl took the win by a head, doing it in wire-to-wire fashion, in a final time of 1:33.05 for the flat mile inner turf stakes.  Absolute Bella was second, just a head in front of Dalitierri Girl.

The nine entrants got away from the gate in front of the stands with Graceful American on the early gas, Pennys Pearl giving chase, Absolute Bella with good early speed.  City Never Sleeps just in behind that first flight, Brutal Heat with that one then a length back to Smart Queen, Dalitierri Girl on the rail, then a length to Saddle Happy and Fixes was
slowest from the gate.

Around the clubhouse turn and on to the back stretch, they had five furlongs left to travel and Pennys Pearl crossed over to the rail in front by a half length.  Graceful American next to her and City Never Sleeps three wide.  A gap of two back to Brutal Head, Smart Queen on her inside and Absolute Bella up the rail.  Another length and a half to Saddle Happy, Dalitierri Girl skimming the hedge and Fixes was still trailing.

Down the backside and now into the far turn with five-sixteenths to run, Pennys Pearl making every jump in front and now by two lengths.  Graceful American losing ground, City Never Sleeps a length off of that one, another length to Absolute Bella on the rail.  Smart Queen was on that one’s flank, Brutal Heat three wide, then another length back to
Dalitierri Girl, Saddle Happy, Fixes between them, still at the end.

Around the far turn, into the lane and now at the furlong marker, Pennys Pearl with a clear lead, Absolute Bella trying to find more, Smart Queen and Graceful American traveling together…they were fanning out and the run to the wire was on.

Deep stretch and to the finish, Pennys Pearl in front but her lead was shrinking with every twitch… Absolute Bella closing the gap, Dalitierri Girl closing in… they were all moving closer.  As they hit the wire, it was a blur of color and horse flesh… and the PHOTO sign went up on the tote.  After viewing the instant video replay, the stewards
saw that Pennys Pearl did hang on by a head, Absolute Bella in second by the same amount and Dalitierri Girl in third.  Smart Queen was fourth, a neck back, then Saddle Happy in fifth, Brutal Heat sixth, Graceful American in seventh, City Never Sleeps eighth and Fixes closed this one out.

Pennys Pearl is a 4yo bay filly by King Rioja – Transparent by Chai Latte, and she was bred by Mb Stables in ON.  Claimed for $40.000 by current owner Angelos Stables, she now shows six wins from sixteen starts, her second for these connections, and she has lifetime earnings of $341.190.
