SA 5    Las Cienegas Stakes (GIII)

      $100.000         F&M 4yo&Up      5 1/2f  Turf         123lbs

Speed, you just can’t teach it… but when you have it, you can be dangerous.  Pennys Pearly has speed and knows how to use it, whic makes her VERY dangerous.  Stalking a blistering pace, she found another gear as they hit the top of the lane in Satuday’s Las Cienegas Stakes (GIII) on the SA lawn, and went under the wire in front by a length in a final time of 1:01.56 for the five and a half furlongs.  Post time favorite Gemischt Von Strauss closed from way back for the second spot and Growling In The Wind was third.

The field loaded up and got underway with Heidi Fleiss getting away quickest of all and crossing over, British Chai and Pennys Pearl giving chase, Growling In The Wind just off of that pair with Call Me Spannish along the inside.  Five Million was next, Gemischt Von Strauss next to that one and Levi Sneaky was the early trailer.

Down the hill and past the five-sixteenths pole, the pace was hot and heavy with Heidi Fleiss in front by two.  Pennys Pearl in a stalking position with British Chai on her flank.  Another length to Growling In The Wind, Call Me Spannish continuing to skim the rail, Gemischt Von Strass next to that one, another length to Five Million and Levi Sneaky could see them all.

Crossing over the main track and into the lane with a bit more than a furlong to run, Heidi Fleiss was now feeling pressure as Pennys Pearl was up the inside and taking aim.  British Chai being asked for more, Growling In The Wind winding up in the middle of the track, a gap to Gemischt Von Strauss, Call Me Spanish continuing to hug the rail, Five Million between that pair and Levi Sneaky need to get going or the day would soon be over.

Deep streatch and to the wire, Pennys Pearl was not going to let this one slip out of her hands… she blew pas Heidi Fleiss, who was done with this one, and she went under the wire in front by a length.  Gemischt Von Strauss made a late move to gain the second spot and Growling In The Wind was third.  Five Million came on late for fourth, Call Me Spannish was fifth, British Chai could find no more and was sixth, Levi Sneaky was seventh and Heidi Fleiss tried to be last.

Pennys Pearl is a 5yo bay mare by King Rioja – Transparent, by Chai Latte and she was bred in ON by Mb Stables.  Claimed by Angelos Stables for $40.000, this was her seventh win from seventeen starts and she now has earnings of $401.190.
