Pentagon Impressive in Win in Best Pal Stakes

In what has to be the biggest 2 year old stakes race of the day if not the year to date there were 7 horses that ended up going into the starting gate with the scratch of the #4 horse Don’t. The dirt track came back fast and there were co-betting choices with Pentagon and Creepy Englishman. As the gates swung open Creepy Englishman flew right out to the lead and ran the open ¼ mile in 22 and 4. He was followed by Pentagon in 2^nd and Jolly Charley who was in 3^rd. The first ¼ mile lead that Creepy Englishman had was short lived as just over 3.5 furlongs from home Pentagon rushed up from the inside to pull even with him, and Jolly Charley followed suit and was just ¼ a length behind in 3^rd. A half mile into the race Pentagon pulled to the front and completed the half mile in 45 an 3, and owner Serenity Stables had to wonder if he made the move to quickly. Creepy Englishman was in 2^nd still followed by Jolly Charley who was in 3^rd. With 1 furlong to go Pentagon still had the lead and looked strong running there. The rest of the field had bunched up behind him a bit but Jolly Charley was in 2^nd and Creepy Englishman was in 3^rd. One thing that caught my eye at this point is what a bad trip Water Mummy was getting as he was searching for a hole to run but couldn’t find one. The wire ultimately came in time for Pentagon who won by a measured length. There was a blanket finish for 2^nd thru 5^th with Armour Pate finishing 2^nd and Edwin Drood finishing 3^rd. This was a very impressive score for Pentagon in this very tough field. I look for him to do bigger and better things in the future. Let’s take a look at the breakdown of the race and the payouts:
