Perfect Secrets Wins NY Breeders Futurity at 23/1

The NY Breeders Futurity ($200.000 Purse)
FL- For Two Year Olds Foaled in NY
Six Furlongs on the Dirt
October 18, 2021

After finishing fourth in the Aspirant Stakes, missing by three lengths, Perfect Secrets was gelded later in the day. This would be his first race as a gelding, something that can often go a long way, and it certainly did not hurt his case here in the NY Breeders Futurity as he picked up his second career win. He was not one of our picks, as the first time gelding angle was overlooked, and he would go off at odds of nearly 23/1 for trainer La Canada Racehorses. It would be his second win in the race, having won previously in 2013 with the late Golden Pop. Aboard the winner was L E Perez, his first win in the race. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:09.37, the second fastest edition of the race. Let’s take a look at it!

(¼ Mile- :22.76)- Three horses go out to the lead from the starting gate, and taking a half length advantage among them would be Greeko Holdem’s Lake Dipper, who was running between horses. We Rumble is second while running on the rail for Kingelleinc, and to the outside is Proxy, from D J C Racing Stables. Not letting them get too far ahead is our eventual winner, Perfect Secrets, with a good stalking position on the rail for La Canada Racehorses. He has company to his outside in the form of Lindeman Prairie’s Strike Fire. Trailing is Fibber, and that D J C Racing Stables entry is four lengths from the lead.

(½ Mile- :45.76, Top Of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- Lake Dipper continues to lead while going around the turn, but it still remains very close between the first five horses in the field. Within the turn, Perfect Secrets would come off the rail and look to follow Lake Dipper. This would help him in the turn, and as We Rumble starts to lose some ground, Perfect Secrets has some room to move to the inside of Lake Dipper in the stretch to make his run. There would be a lane developing to the inside for Fibber to come through. His stablemate, Proxy, who was with the lead group is still running well to the outside of Lake Dipper is not going to go down without a fight, either. Strike Fire was beginning to drop out of it.

(Finish- 1:09.37)- If desire was a problem for Perfect Secrets in previous starts, there was no such issue here as he threads the needle quite nicely to find room between Lake Dipper and We Rumble, and once with the lane, he would maintain his strong stride and go on to win the race by a length. Fibber moved up late to take second place over his stablemate, Proxy. Lake Dipper was sluggish in the late moments and settles for fourth, beating only We Rumble, the disappointing post time favorite, and Strike Fire.

About The Winner- Perfect Secrets, trained by La Canada Racehorses and ridden to victory by L E Perez, is a two year old gelding by Personal Secret, and is out of Perfect Tip Toer. He was bred in New York as a yearling by La Canada Racehorses, who’s been his trainer throughout. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his second in five starts, and first stake win. His career earnings are now $166.000.
