Gendelman Memorial Stakes
1 1/16 Mile Turf Stake Purse $100.00 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.
1st Port Gibson The Sidley Stud McKee J 1:39.84
The result in the end was pretty much as expected as this seven-year-old’s class told in the end. He took a while to get pass the second but the fact that he is a closing type and the pace was ordinary explains that anomaly away fairly easily. The slower pace allowed him to sit closer to the speed than he usually does but he has always lacked that killer turn of foot and in the end, it was pure stamina and class that got him there.
2nd Zzzooommm Mojica Racing Lebron V 1:39.93
The fear for The Sidley Stud was always going to be if this one found an easy lead and that is exactly what happened. Cruising in front as a pretty average pace he had the winner in trouble as they turned for home but in the end was just beaten by the better horse. This was another solid effort from the five-year-old who has clearly got some five-year-old improvement and should see a few wins this year.
3rd Cheveley Chateau The Sidley Stud Pilares C P 1:39.99
Stalked the leader and ran a decent third for a first ever effort on the grass. HRP being as it is I don’t think he is any better on the turf but pretty much ran his race out and finished about where he was mapped to be.
4th Swamp Reaper The Sidley Stud Bermudez S E 1:40.47
It is a funny time of year for three-year-olds, some take the weight allowance and run better against olders, some just seem to plod behind their older rivals as if the weight makes no difference. This one falls into the latter category although his form had been tailing off recently and I just wonder whether he needs a bit of time off to put on some weight and fill out his huge frame.
