Prince George Reigns in The Runyon

The Runyon
6 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $100.000 Open 3 Year Olds Foaled In NY.

1st Prince George Mb Stables Richards G G

The result here was not a big surprise, here was a runner up in his two previous stakes races running out of the powerful Mb Stables yard and returning to a sprint trip that looked to be his best. The surprise for me was that he went hard out of the gate trying to get the lead from the wide gate but was held off and had to settle for the stalk on a very strong opening quarter. That is normally the kiss of death on this engine but this one managed to not only chase the strong pace but then keep the closers at bay with a degree of ease. I guess his next race will tell us whether he can go on from this, but this was a nice win and there is no reason he can’t.

2nd Starry Wonder Smokey Stover Carmouche K

The two wide gates really went at it in this race, either by design or by the fact that the wide gate speed push came into play. The opening quarter that this one had to run and then maintain the front was pretty brutal, but he did really well to battle on for second. Having only his fourth start, I would expect some improvement to come.

3rd American Star Smokey Stover Franco M

Well, the unbeaten record disappeared but the gelding did pretty well in only his third start in an on-pace dominated race. He kept on well enough for third and maybe will appreciate a little further.

4th Bora Sin Arindel Davis D

Kept on pretty well without quickening but is another with limited experience that will only get better.
