Mb Stables has picked up another 1-2 finish, with this one happening in the Prince Of Wales Stakes on Tuesday. His chances of being successful here were strong, saddling three of the six runners going to post. Grabbing the win with a come from behind effort was Conscientious, who had just run second in the Kings Plate last month. This is the fourth win in the Prince Of Wales for Mb Stables, and the second time that he has pulled off a 1-2 finish in the race. J R Velazquez was aboard, and it is his fourth win in the race as well. Three of those wins have been for Mb Stables. Congratulations to them! The winning race time was 1:53.95, the second quickest in the history of the race, .01 off the record which was set by Center Broadway for Glorify Stables last year. Here’s a look at this year’s race:
(½ Mile- :47.51)- Bad For Your Health is out on the lead early for Mb Stables, with stablemate Straight Cash Homie within a half-length after a half mile. The Sidley Stud’s Mango Or Mint also ran with these two down the front stretch and around the opening turn. Our pick to win, Mo Mentum Farm’s Forever Martian is fourth, and sits just a couple lengths off the lead. There’s a gap of at least three to the eventual winner of the race, the Mb Stables- trained Conscientious, with The Sidley Stud’s Happy Brave behind him training the field.
(3/4 Mile- 1:11.51)- Down the backstretch, and entering the turn, they are positioned in an orderly manner of essentially one following another. It is Bad For Your Health by a length on Straight Cash Homie, then Mango Or Mint, followed by Forever Martian. Two more back to Conscientious, with Happy Brave still at the back.
(Top of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- Bad For Your Health pulls further away from the rest of the back, as Straight Cash Home is unable to keep up with him. Mango Or Mint is bowing out in an even quicker manner, falling to fourth as Forever Martian takes it wide in the turn hoping to move forward. Conscientious can simply hold his lane and is not impeded by Mango Or Mint. At the top of the stretch, he has around three lengths to make up. Somewhere way back there, Happy Brave was still in the race.
(Finish- 1:53.95)- With a furlong to go, Mb Stables getting a 1-2 finish in the books, but it did look like Bad For Your Health would be the one having the bragging rights afterward. But in the closing moments, Conscientious was at his best, and would not only complete the pass, but would go on to win by about a length. It’s another length to third place Forever Martian, who beat Mango Or Mint by two. Straight Cash Homie faded to fifth, and eventually Happy Brave finished as well.
About The Winner- Conscientious, trained by Mb Stables and ridden to victory by J R Velazquez, is a three-year-old gelding by Bold Ruler and is out of Backfired. He was bred in Ontario as a second quarter two-year-old by Mb Stables, and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his fourth in 11 starts and second graded win. His career earnings are now $603.810.
