Rapturous Fights Off Amy Is Shameful to Win The Untapable Stakes

The Untapable Stakes ($500.000 Purse)
KD- For Fillies Two Year Old
Six and a Half Furlongs on the Turf
September 12, 2021

Just three weeks ago, Rapturous made her debut at ELP, and was impressive in a wire to wire win where she led by two lengths throughout. In the inaugural Untapable Stakes, she was ready to run for the second time and once again she pulled off the win. This was not a wire to wire victory, but again she would be the best, making her perfect for her career and making her case to be one of the favorites for the BC Juvenile Turf Sprint should the trainer, Mb Stables, decide to go that route. Aboard the winner was E Jaramillo. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:14.75. Let’s take a look!

(¼ Mile- :22.67)- Two horses break quicker than everyone else in the field, and they match strides over the opening quarter mile. Give the early edge to I Hear Ya, for Nakamura Stables, by a neck over the Mb Stables longshot, Rambunctious. There’s a gap of two lengths to the next two horses, with the post-time favorite, La Canada Racehorses- trained Amy Is Shameful being slightly ahead of Arindel’s Shandy. A length behind them, and positioned in between them is our eventual winner, Rapturous, from Mb Stables who let her stablemate do the work on the front end this time. Nearby to her inside is Inola (Our Athletes), and it is several lengths back to the trailer, Radicchio (First Flight Stable).

(½ Mile- :45.50, Top of Stretch, 2F To Go)- Going around the long turn, we don’t see much change in the way that the field runs although I Hear Ya starts to pull away from Rambunctious up front. This was likely more because of the other’s tiring. Amy Is Shameful moved to make an outside run for the stretch while Shandy stayed right on the rail. Rapturous gained a length as all this was going on, and was moving to the outside of Shandy. It looked as though there would be enough of an opening to come between I Hear Ya and her stablemate within the stretch. Inola moved off the rail hoping for a run, and if Radicchio had a charge coming, it was time to show it.

(Finish- 1:14.75)- Once in the stretch, both Rapturous and Amy Is Shameful went by I Hear Ya and were ready to settle this race between them. In the closing moments, Rapturous would show that she had more power in her stride and ends up overtaking Amy Is Shameful to get the win by about half a length. Amy Is Shameful gets a solid second and should feel no shame over it. As I hear Ya bowed out of it, the rest of the field was beaten by two lengths and we get a dead heat for show between Inola and I Hear Ya with Shandy just missing making it a three way dead heat. Radicchio started moving late, but actually only would pass Rambunctious today.

About The Winner- Rapturous, trained by Mb Stables and ridden to victory by E Jaramillo, is a two year old filly by Candlestick, and is out of Unaware. She was bred in Texas as a second quarter two year old by Gustafson Stable, and acquired by Mb Stables in the June 2021 auction for $8.010. Congratulations to the connections! She is now 2-for-2 in her career with this being her first stake win. Her career earnings are now $330.600.
