1st Retrograde Amnesia Serenity Stables Lopez P 1:42.18
Over the years this trainer has come and gone but every time they are around, they make an impact and this year is probably one of the biggest so far. This filly, probably the star of the stable made it three grade ones in a row with another excellent performance but it isn’t just the half length she won by it is the manner of her success. Drawn in an awkward spot she was way back in 11th at the first call but by the second she had relaxed and was ready to take her chance at the win. Once again, she produced her dominant turn of foot and strode home, one of the most impressive winners of this entire BC. The question now of course is whats next? Will she last to be as good as a three-year-old? Does she get even better? We have seen enough BC winners at two struggles at three to not really know but there are a lot of positives about this filly that may just make her an exception. A near perfect confo, a real will to win and an impressive turn of foot at the moment at least she looks like an early KYO favourite.
2nd Class Play Delta Farms Esquivel E 1:42.31
The race engine has been pace dominated this year but this race saw the swoopers run past the pace and this one ran a great race to be second. She didn’t get going as early as the winner so had a tougher run late in the race but when she was given full bore she ran home really strongly and looks an exciting prospect for next year. She has got better and better the further she has been asked to run so look out for her next year in the run to the KYO.
3rd Sassette Serenity Stables Corrales G 1:42.38
Well Serenity filled three of the top four places with their fillies, a remarkable feat for this popular trainer but this filly, who seems to be the forever bridesmaid, is probably the story of the trainer’s season. Bought for $925 after a debut win this is their sixth race for Serenity and she still hasn’t won again. But, whilst she may not have won, she has been brilliant placing in the top three in her last three grade one starts, including of course this championship race, There is not doubt she is top class but the one thing she seems to lack is that turn of foot at the end of her races to be at the top of the tree.
4th Will Name You Later Serenity Stables Espinoza V 1:42.42
Flew home very late to grab fourth but never really had a chance of getting the win. Another furlong would have made this finish really interesting but at the end of the day I feel this fourth pace was enough to bring her right into the reckoning for the big races next year. Her closing style will always make winning tough but there will be big wins in her future.
