Truth Dancer and La Canada Racehorses Dominate BC Juvenile Turf

BC Juvenile Turf – G1

$1,000.00 – For Colts And Geldings Two Years Old – 1 Mile – Turf
Keeneland – October 30, 2026

Coming into the G1 BC Juvenile Turf, Truth Dancer was undefeated in two starts since being gelded. He was unbeaten in G1 races having won the G1 Summer Stakes in his last race. He was number one atop the qualifying standings for this BC race. There were a lot of “1”s associated with Truth Dancer. So, of course, I threw a three into the mix and made him my third choice. Truth Dancer said a big “heck no” to that and added another G1 and first place to his increasingly impressive record. I did have his stablemate, Confidant Moment, pegged for second place but I did not have a La Canada Racehorses sweep on my short list of possibilities. The barn didn’t quite sweep but first, second and fourth is quite an accomplishment in a BTP claimer let alone a season ended best of the best BC race. Well done and congratulations!

Winner: Truth Dancer
Owner/Trainer: La Canada Racehorses
Jockey: R. Pennington
Breeder: La Canada Racehorses (NY) Truce/Dancer Zion (Zionist)

Broke well from his inside post position and took up the perfect stalking position into the first turn and into the backstretch. With Spritzer, Storm Lugo and Luminary to his outside Truth Dancer was running comfortably behind the leader The Mighty Brew and the forwardly placed N Y P D. He seemed to get the jump on his rivals as he moved into third going into the final turn but appeared to be dropping back when he fell to fifth for a moment as he moved off the rail to take aim at the two leaders. That had to be a moment of concern for his connections and backers but once he moved outside of the frontrunners and had a clear stretch ahead of him Truth Dancer accelerated to the lead and made short work of things opening up to be a clear winner at the wire.

Second: Confidant Moment
Owner/Trainer: La Canada Racehorses
Jockey: L. Contreras
Breeder: La Canada Racehorses (NY) Memento/Zion Confidant (Zionist)

Like his winning stablemate, he got a good break. There were options for his jockey going into the first turn and the choice was to take back and tuck in mid-pack. He found a spot a couple of lengths behind to follow Truth Dancer down the backstretch and around the final turn. Where the winner pulled out and went around the leaders, Confidant Moment ducked into the rail as the leaders tired and made his run. Finished strongly and beat all but one. Second best.

Third: Storm Lugo
Owner/Trainer: Mb Stables
Jockey: P. Lopez
Breeder: Panionios Racing (WV) Storming/Chica Lugo (Niagra)

Showed good speed and interest and was put on the same flight path as the winner joining that one in the stalking group early. Was slightly ahead of Truth Dancer as they approached the stretch but could not match the acceleration of the winner and got outfinished late by the runner up.

Fourth: Lions Pride
Owner/Trainer: La Canada Racehorses
Jockey: N. Arroyo Jr.
Breeder: La Canada Racehorses (NY) Pinks Pride/First Zion (Zionist)

He was decidedly slower out of the gate than his two stablemates and was among the unhurried trailers. At the half mile pole he was in eleventh place and had yet to be asked. He began to show interest halfway around the far turn and was making the strongest late run. Just up in the final strides to gain the last check but needed a couple of more strides to complete the barn sweep.

Preview Pick: Royalty Awaits – thirteenth. Seemed to lose interest after running up on a pack of horses midway.

This was the first win in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf for La Canada Racehorses as either an owner/trainer or breeder. It was also the first win in the race for F. Pennington. Truth Dancer extends his winning streak to three races since the ultimate equipment change and now can boast of two straight G1s. Truth Dancer has never finished out of the money to date and in his brief six race career he has earned a total of $975.00.
