Seven Set to Go in Knickerbocker

The Knickerbocker – Grade 3 – $150.000

AQU – 1 1/8 Mile – Turf

For Three Year Olds and Upward

October 15, 2023

1 West Hockey Party (Maxmillion Farm)

Off the graded stakes route since the DG Derby almost a year ago. Last win was May of last year and that in allowance company. Though winless in 2023, he’s only finished off the board once in eight starts. Still a pretty high step up for this four-year-old gelding.

2 King Luka (Night Rider Stables)

Won a state-bred allowance two back. Last out he tried graded in the Mint Mile and finished a close fourth. Not sure what the extra 1/8 mile will do for him one way or the other, but all of his on-the-board finishes have come at a distance. Wouldn’t count him out.

3 Chai Danger (Wolf Ridge Stables)

This six-year-old has been knocking around stakes level for a while without a win. Last out he finished third, four lengths back in the Baruch Handicap. Not as consistent as some, but he could be due for a big performance.

4 Manticore (High Voltage)

Second last out in the Cole in NY-bred company at the same distance as this contest on soft turf. Seems to like off-going and might get it tomorrow.

5 Buffalo G (Nakamura Stables)

Strong allowance horse with two wins at that level this year. Also won the Connally BC Turf in January all at a mile. Shouldn’t have a problem with the extra 1/8 mile.

6 Broad Brush (Czech Out Farms)

Winless this year in five starts. Came close last start in the Johns Call at 1 ½ mile where he finished second by a nose. Does his best running on or near the lead.

7 Wayward Prince (Angelos Stable)

Won the MTH Stakes back in June at the same distance as this race but hasn’t been back to the winner’s circle since. Second by ½ length last out in optional claiming company. If he can get back to that June form, he could get a piece of the purse.
