1 Mile Turf Stake Purse $1,000.000 Open 2 Year Olds.
1st Fight Clubber Barcelona Farms Rodriguez Jam
Well, there can’t be many that can boast a $1,000.000 stakes win after scraping home in a LAD maiden but this race was always open to a horse that would relish the mile, the surface and get the right conditions, and all the boxes got ticked for the gelded son of Heretowinthisfight. I said it in my write up, and I will say it again this brilliant trainer is so often underestimated with their turf runners, and this was a classic case of having the right horse in the right race. He proved at LAD that he would stay the trip and his works were telling us he was a true turfer but it was still a bit of a shock when the crazy early pace on an off track (not unusual as the race engine struggles a little with getting off track pace right), saw the leaders collapse and it was this horse that found his way through to take the win.

I was perhaps unkind when I said the pace collapsed as this gelding had zipped into a clear lead and actually did terrifically well to hold on for second considering the very fast opening quarter. Two from two and now two from four with two placings at stakes level, he looks like a very useful type and will no doubt be pulling of a graded stakes win before long.
3rd Yellowbrick Road La Canada Racehorses Jaramillo E
Beat the runner up in the Skidmore but though he ran on nicely today he couldn’t repeat that and ended up third. This was always going to come down to the last two furlongs and he just didn’t have enough of a turn of foot to reach the leader.

Whilst the other stable runner used the wide gate speed push to go forward this one followed plan B on the wide draw playlist and went way back giving himself too much to do in the end. He flew home widest of all, and you did get the feeling that there was something very good about him and that a win will come very soon. He may not have got much back of the $375.000 that he cost yet, but I think that may be a different story in the next few months.
