The early pace of this race was slower than the mile that ran earlier so you had to be closer to the speed to have a chance and this one managed to do that. Despite slipping into the chasing pack a bit through the first quarter he was never too far back and when he was asked to go and win his race with two to run, he did so very willingly. This was a great win for Acber Farms who doesn’t often get the credit they deserve as a trainer, but this one is certainly on the map now as the juveniles start to eye up the BC.

2nd Top Nurse Our Athletes Curtis B

Used the wide gate speed push to go right up on-speed, but that speed was pretty moderate and that allowed him to stay in it for a long way. Proven on an off track, he was at his very best today holding onto second in a fine effort for a horse that had to sit wider through the first part of the race. She looks to me to be as good on dirt, so there may be options as she heads to the qualifiers for the BC.

3rd Song Of The Angels Riggins Racing Corrales G

Stayed right on pace and kept on pretty well for a close third. She is certainly growing a consistent record and that is the best a trainer can hope for in today’s HRP.

4th Smokin Fire Red Fox Farms Lezcano J

Went back from the inside off a muddling pace so was always going to find it tough to make ground through the field. In the end she had to settle for fourth but there was enough in this effort to suggest there will be better to come.
