Diana Stakes — Race Preview
May 29, 2026 | 16:55 | BTP | 6f Dirt | $100.00 | F&M 3yo+
A compact field but one with a very clear shape: a dominant favourite, a few honest triers, and two longshots hoping the race collapses. The sixth furlong is the only real variable.
1 — Sitting Bulls Champ (Mb Stables) — McKee — 124
Her résumé towers over this field. Three allowance wins at CT sandwiched between two strong graded‑stakes efforts show both her raw speed and her slight vulnerability when the trip stretches beyond her comfort zone. At six furlongs, the only question is whether she can see it out strongly enough — but the ace draw is a gift. She’ll be able to cruise early, avoid pressure, and dictate terms. Clear top pick. Everything points to her race to lose.
2 — Candycanelane (Hannahbanana) — Bermudez — 124
Ultra‑consistent at the lower levels and ran a respectable third in a small TUP stakes last time. She’s improving, she’s honest, and she draws well. But she has never shown the firepower needed to topple Sitting Bulls Champ. Legitimate chance for second; unlikely to threaten the favourite.
3 — Jugette (Serenity Stables) — Hernandez — 118
Won her maiden at HOU and then sold for $126.00, which tells you the barn saw something more than her early form suggested. Her two runs since the sale have been underwhelming, especially the CD effort against her own age group. However, she gets the three‑year‑old allowance, and this could be her make‑or‑break moment. A wildcard — capable of stepping forward sharply.
4 — Dusty Heart (SamIam) — Pilares — 124
Her third in the Chillingworth Stakes puts her in the conversation, but she’s been stuck in that classic four‑year‑old plateau where the improvement curve flattens. Needed a drop to TUP to secure her fourth win. Has ability but needs her absolute best to challenge for the win. More likely fighting for minor money.
5 — Fire Experiment (D J C Racing Stables) — Castanon — 124
A $5.00 claimer at FON finally snapped her losing streak, following another $5.00 claimer win at BTP. On paper she’s completely outclassed — but her work times aren’t wildly inferior, which at least gives her a puncher’s chance at a small cheque. Needs chaos to hit the board.
6 — Wengen (First Flight Stable) — Ashton — 118
Won nicely on debut but has looked ordinary since. The three‑year‑old allowance helps, but she still looks well short of the standard required. **Hard to see her threatening.
