Six Sophomore Sprinting Fillies To The Gate In The Prioress at SAR

9/2/22

Sprinting sophomore fillies will be the name of the game as we head up-state and catch a nice field of six for The Prioress (GII) a six furlong sprint on the main SAR oval.  We are winding down from a great summer of racing, and it keeps going here and I’m taking Spearmint Rhino as the top selection.  She just looks like the class of the race and her best should be able to get a nice, glossy 8 x 10.  Mb Stables has been hot of late and I’ll put Change For A Twenty in the second spot.  She’s not the typical multiple graded winner that you see from this outfit, but she’s been tough vs. NY-bred stakes company and I think she looks solid in this field.

Here’s The Field –

1
Chatta Code    Ace Racing Stable    Carmouche K   122   10/1

She’s won her last pair, taking down NY-bred stakes company in each of those.  Both of those races were at today’s distance and now it’s time to climb the ladder and go after graded company.  She was ignored by the public in those wins, and probably will be again today… can she make them pay?

2
   Lailoni    Arindel    Saez L   122   7/1

She’s still looking for her first win of the season although there were high hopes for her coming into the ’22 season.  They ran her with the boys in the Rebel (GII) so they obviously think a lot of her… but her best races have been at the Alw level and she’s struggled vs stakes company.  Can she turn it around today?

3
   Change For A Twenty    Mb Stables    Velazquez J R   122   7/2

She’s only missed one check this season, winning four of her seven ’22 starts, and the big barn has been hot of late.  She won last out over this track and at the distance, taking down high-end Alw types, so she’s ready to run another big race today.

4
   Scary Ghost    Arindel    Franco M   122   6/1

Second part of the Arindel 3-headed monster and she kicked off ’22 with a nice stakes score at GP taking the Cash Run.  She also took down a nice Alw race over that same track.  She could be on the improve and may make some noise in this one.

5
Hawkes Bay    Smokey Stover    Cedillo A   122   4/1

She’s won her last two starts, sprinting against Alw types at PLN and PID, and she certainly has speed.  This is her first start vs. graded types but she’s been on the board in twelve of fourteen starts, so why not…

6
   Spearmint Rhino    Arindel    Ferrer J C   122   9/5

Classy type that has won two of six starts but hasn’t won since April.  She was fourth in the Acorn (GI) and again in the Test (GI) and she looks like the class of this race to me.  I think she is the one to get past.
