Slckmoment Laga Takes Las Virgenes Stakes in Off the Pace Move

The day proved to move away from front runners and the Las Vigenes Stakes (GII) was no different as Night Rider Stables’ Slckmoment Laga, came from the back of the pack to take this one by a length in a final time of 1:352 for the flat mile main track stakes.  Naples pressed the pace throughout, had the lead in the lane but couldn’t hold off the winner, settling for the place, a length in front of post time favorite and my choice, Grazin At Sunrise in third.  Princess Dolly took the minor money.

Slckmoment Laga is a 3yo bay filly by Moment Of Madness – Slick And Quiet, by Handsome Stallions, and she was bred in Cal by Lagastable.  Acquired two races back by current conditioner Night Rider Stables for $30.000, she has proven to be a very smart purchase, running second in a stakes at first asking and now taking a graded event in fine fashion.  Congrats to the connections.

Slckmoment Laga broke in hand, reserved off of the pace, moved forward into the lane, pressed clear late, won driving.  Naples was forwardly placed, lead in the lane, could not hold off the eventual winner.  Grazin At Sunrise raced under a hold, looked hopelessly beaten into the lane, good late foot.  Princess Dolly raced evenly throughout while no threat.  Cherokee Latte pressed the pace, tired.  Ashado borke alertly, set the pace to the far turn, headed, used up.
