Small Field For Wide Open IND Oaks

7/7/21

A small but talented field will headed for the gate on Wednesday as we take a look at the field for The IND Oaks (GIII).  Not only is this a small field but nothing in here really makes me go wow… well, Wow is in here, but she’ not my selection.  I took Sensual Eruption as the horse to beat off of that flashy Alw victory at CD last out.  She ran poorly in her only graded effort, but this looks like a spot where she can get home first.  I’ll take Secret Eyes in the second spot… this one has won at the graded level, but she’s about as inconsistent as the weather.  If she runs her best, she could just dominate, but sometimes she just doesn’t bring her best.

It’s a wide open race so let’s grab a wobble-pop and head down to the rail for a nice pair of mid-week graded races.

Here’s The Field –

1
Sheza Hacker    Spankys Barn    Mojica O   120   7/1

Sold two back and paid immediate returns taking an overnight at SA, then was a tiring fourth over the same surface facing graded horses.  That race was still nothing to be ashamed of and she could improve making her third start for this barn.

2
   Secret Eyes    Arindel    Jaramillo E   120   7/2

The bad news is she’s been very hit/miss over the season and the good news is this should be her “good” timing.  She won the Gazelle (GIII), was thirteenth in the KY Oaks, came back to be third in the Black Eyed Susan (GII) then was last of eleven in the Acorn (GI)… who shows up today?

3
   Wow    D J C Racing Stables    Velazquez J R   120   9/2

She’s won three of her last five starts and has been one-two in five of her last six.  That consistent style will need to be on display as she’s never seen graded horses, but this may be a spot for her to get up and make a name for herself.  Look for a big run vs. these.

4
   Sensual Eruption    Smokey Stover    Leparoux J R   120   5/1

Broke maiden to kick off her ’21 season then won last out vs. high-end Alw horses at CD.  Her only graded try was an up-the-track finish in the FG Oaks (GII) where she was out-matched.  Can she run big here today?

5
Storm Of Fire    Mb Stables    Bridgmohan S X   120   5/1

The big stable brings in a first time stakes type but she did look good winning vs. Alw horses at CD in her most recent.  She wired the field in that one and has shown good speed in all of her raced.  You always have to give this barn an extra look… they are tough.
