Sophomore Sprinters go Seven in Kings Bishop

RACE 7 SAR 8/29/2015  Post Time 3:00PM
    The Kings Bishop (GI)
$400.000   3yo   7f    Dirt

1
Tequila Ruler  Mb Stables  Pennington F      2/1 122

He’s certainly a proven sprinter and wants no parts of that two-turn business.  Chuck out that twelfth place finish in the Spiral (GIII) and you have a heck of a record.  Narrow miss in the Amsterdam (GII) over this track and you have to think the extra 1/16th is in his favor.  He may find traffic issues with his off-the-pace style from the rail and a full gate.  That’s the only thing that has me worried.

2
 Baffle  Nj Vets  Borel C H      9/5 122

Fantastic win in the Crosby (GI) at DMR last out and that certainly makes him a key horse here today.  He’s another that just doesn’t seem to like the two-turn biz and wants to buckle down and fly.  He certainly has tactical speed to go with his class and must be looked at as key horse today.

3
 Just A Chance  Mb Stables  Bejarano R     15/1 122

Was on the TC Trail and finished up-the-track in the BEL (GI) here in NY, and did show a bit of a wake-up v. Alw horses in his most recent.  I’m just not sure where he stands in this one and although I’m always looking at this barn, I just can’t find anything to sink my teeth into here.

4
 Sqawilther  Australia Wide  Ortiz J L      18/1 122

Took down an OptAlw race in his most recent, at today’s distance and over this track.  But I think that’s about as far as I can go with his accolades in this one.  No real traction from his two stakes tries and I just can’t get excited.  You don’t tug on Superman’s cape, but I think the King is up against it here.

5
 Battle Chant  Our Athletes  Castellano J J     15/1 122

He changes hands again after running ninth in the Crosby (GI) and he just doesn’t seem to be able to keep a spot in the barn right now.  He was second in the Bay Shore (GIII) at AQU back in the spring, and a repeat of that may get him a portion of this one.  But he just doesn’t seem to be the same horse and I’ll look at some others.

6
Fast Is Still Fast  Sanny Village  Velazquez J R     9/1 122

Took an Alw race at CD back in May for his only ’15 victory, but was a respectable third in the Dwyer (GIII) at BEL last out.  He just doesn’t seem to have the same impact that he had as a juvenile, but he is a horse that could be around for a minor share if he fires his best race.

7
 Trench Admiral  Grimley  Trujillo E      4/1 122

Gutsy win taking the Amsterdam (GII) last out and that was his fourth win from seven seasonal starts.  He has two graded wins under his belt, but sprinting, so you certainly have to put him on the short list of contenders here today.  He seems to get overlooked at the windows, and you have to like that as well.

8
 Brutal  Aer Stables  Albarado R J     6/1 122

He’s two-for-two since being pulled off of the TC trail as he seems to like the mile-type life more.  Solid win last out facing older horses in the Salvator Mile (GIII) at MTH.  He’s a horse with a ton of ability and should be around for quite a while as I just don’t think you’ve seen his best effort yet.

9
Magic Time  Sarah Stables  Espinoza V    7/2 122

Flying late in the Jersey Shore (GIII) to be a neck back of the winner in that one.  He won the Bay Shore (GIII) and just missed in the Swale (GII) so he certainly knows the 6/7f routine.  I’m not sure if the post does him any favors here but if he runs his best race, he certainly could be getting his picture taken.

10
Mojoboa  Ekli Stable  Ortiz I Jr 122

Four wins from six starts this season including a win in the Barrera (GIII) and a nice win last out at WO vs. OptAlw horses.  Both of those were at today’s distance and he seems to love running the 7f.  He closes and I’m not sure that’s going to work out well from this post and with a ton of horse flesh in here.  He needs to get a good trip.

11
Orange Skeleton  Chili King Stables  Desormeaux K J     20/1 122

Just missed v. Cal-bred stakes horses last out and her last win came back in Feb when facing Alw horses from out west.  Has shown speed and also runs from off the pace some times – I’m not sure what we get here today but I just can’t see it being a profitable day.

12
You Big Freak  Hawaiian Shirt Guy  Leparoux J R      5/2 122

Solid sprinter comes in with a two-race win streak taking the Stephens (GII) and Dwyer (GIII).  He’s won on grass, dirt… heck the parking lot would work if you lined him up out there.  I’m just not happy about the post so he’s does have something pretty big to overcome.  Still… he can run!

13ae
Congo Rhythms Run  Oval Express Farms  – No Rider –    AE 122

Won in a fast time at AP going 6f but needs a scratch to draw into this one.  They may be better off looking for something else anyways.
