Sprinting Spinsters at WO for Bessarabian Stakes

  4   WO   Bessarabian Stakes (GII)
         $175.000     3yo&Up F&M     7f  Dirt         3yo 120lbs  Older 123lbs  +penalties

A field of eight fillies and mares will be going the sprinting distance of seven furlongs just outside of Toronto on Saturday and we look at the field for the Bessarabian Stakes (GII).  I’m headed to the outside post for my top choice as Kalaeloa just seems to be the hot horse right now.  She was given a break from Aug to Oct and came back to be third vs. graded horses at BEL, and shortens up here today.  I think she spells winner.  I will give Threat Unknown the second choice spot as Mb Stables has this one in good form and she looks ready for a big race.  She hasn’t won since May, but today may be the day.  A bunch of these deserve consideration so it should be a fun one to watch.

Here’s The Field –

1
   Pure Addiction    TwinTowersRacing    Wilson E J   123   8/1

A single win this season beating OptAlw horses at SA back in March.  Other than that, it’s been an up and down year with a second in the Apple Blossom (GI) and the Personal Ensign (GI) so she certainly has some ability.  She’s going to need her best in this one.

2
   You Just Have 2 Wait    Estero Farms    Hernandez R M   123   6/1

Won two back at DMR taking the Bernardo Hcp (GIII) by a half length to get her first win of the season.  She had a much better sophomore season where this year has been solid, but less wins.  Can she get that back on-track today?

3
   Argana    D J C Racing Stables    Fukumoto D   120   4/1

Bother her 2020 wins have come in the last three starts, taking an OptAlw race at DMR then getting the win last out in the Duchess at WO.  She won that by three widening lengths so she looks sharp right now.  Giver her a look.

4
Threat Unknown    Mb Stables    Ryan S   120   4/1

Three wins for this 3yo but they all came in May or before, and the last four have been close but not cigar.  She hasn’t been beaten by more than two length in those races, but she has a third, a fourth, a fifth and an eighth… not the plan for this mega barn.  Can she get back to the earlier form?

5
   Skygazer    Rampage Stable    Contreras L   120   7/2

She’s been hot of late winning three of her last four and was seventh in the Test (GI).  That was a loaded field so you can overlook that and she seems like a big factor here today.  She showed a new wrinkle last out coming from off of the pace, so she could be the one here today.

6
Gravel And Wine    Iolaus Racing    Lermyte J   120   7/1

She’s won two of four starts for the new owner, after being purchase privately for $80.000.  Both of those were were vs. Alw types, so this is back to the graded horses where she hasn’t done as well, including a fifth last out in the Zenyatta (GII).

7
   Zero Twist    John Henry    Bahen S R   120   5/1

Three wins this season but she’s missed the board in her last pair including the Prioress (GII) and Raven Run (GII) at KEE in her most recent.  She’s always around when the head for the wire and I’d still give her a look in this one as well.  She may be a due a big run.

8
   Kalaeloa    Smokey Stover    Stein J   123   5/2

Three wins from seven starts this season including the Beholder (GI) and a pair of Alw races at the high-end level.  She was third in the Beldame (GII) last out and I think she is going to be a tough nut to get past here today.  She’s my choice.
