Sweep The Event was in front for a very small portion of the SSM Turf Sprint… but it was the right portion.  Nailing Sweep The Event, looking for 75/1 upset, right on the wire, the Night Rider Stables trained gelding won by a nose in a final time of :56.83 for the 5f on the lush, GP turf course.  The tote board was certainly something to see in this one.

The field of five got away in good order with Sweep The Event quickest into stride, Money For Charley from the outside, Hold The Mach, Rebel Dawn just behind that one and Shoot And Hope the early trailer from the rail.

Into the turn and past the three-eighth’s pole, Sweep The Even to the lead and the rail, in front by a length.  Money For Charley still in hot pursuit, Hold The Mach a length off of that one, Rebel Dawn on his flank and Shoot And Hope could see them all, four lengths from front to back.

Swing around the turn and into the lane, just three-sixteenth’s of a mile to run and Sweep The Event was looking to upset the event, as the 75/1 shot was in front by a length.  Money For Charley still chasing that one, Hole The Mach on the rail just in behind that one, Rebel Dawn swinging out for the drive while Shoot And Hope had a lot of work to do, four lengths still covering the field.

Now inside the final sixteenth of a mile and this was just about anybody’s race to win… Sweep The Even digging in but the lead was down to a neck as Hold The Mach was moving forward with every jump.  Money For Charley right next to that one, Rebel Dawn trying to find more widest of all and Shoot And Hope was making a late charge up the hedge.

Deep stretch and to the finish, Sweep The Event giving his all, Sweep The Event making one last push and as they hit the wire it was just a bang-bang finish and the PHOTO sign went up.  After looking at the photograph, Hold The Mach led for just the right stride… the one on the wire and was the winner by a nose.  Sweep The Event was a tough luck second with Money For Charley in third.  Rebel Dawn was fourth and Shoot And Hope closed this one out.

Hold The Mach is a 6yo black gelded son of Flying Mach – Spirit The Hold, by Hold The Spirit and he was bred in NY by Wild Aces Stables.  Claimed for $10.000 back in Feb of 2014, this speedster shows eight wins from twenty-four starts and earnings of $706.420.
