Purse $200.000  For Three Year Olds Foaled In CA.

1 Bettys Wisky, trained by Running Farms

Very lightly raced this filly takes on the colts with a handy weight allowance. Given time to mature she was unraced as a two year old and didn’t take long to break her maiden as a three year old taking out a competitive maiden on her second start. She then just failed by a neck to win The Jersey Girl Stakes on a sloppy track and in her last start ran a lifetime best third in the Azalea Stakes. The weight pull and the inside alley should allow her to get onto the pace early but it will be a big ask for her to win and I expect a brave effort rather than a ground shattering win.

2 Screaming Demon, trained by Downwind Stables

Another lightly raced one he took a while to win his maiden but then ran a good race in his last start and only start in Allowance Company to be a brave second. He tires the end of that six furlongs and I am not convinced her will get this extra furlong but he has been working well enough to suggest he will play some sort of part in this race.

3 Royal Wings, trained by Emerald Racing Inc

This gelding has been consistent in allowance grade since breaking his maiden as a two year old most notably when taking a one win allowance at WO by a comfortable length. He was outpaced in his last start over a shorter trip but flew late and only just failed suggesting this seven furlongs will be right up his alley. He is a decent sprinter but his works suggest he has a little to find with a few of these.

4 To A Tune, trained by Team 7 Illusions

Won a turf maiden on this track after a long break and could well be the surprise package in the race. The question as to whether she will be suited by this trip or the dirt surface are two that will be answered today but if he takes to both I think he will be hard to beat.

5 Actually, trained by Mb Stables

One of the few with any form in stakes company he ran a huge race in the grade three Salvator Mile last time out. Leading at this distance he just faded in the last furlong to be a close second and this could well be a great opportunity for him to add to his three career wins. A maiden at two he broke through as a three year old and has been pushing triple digit speed figures all season. Actually I think he has a winning chance.

6 Chit Chat, trained by Team 7 Illusions

With all the black type form loaded into the wider gates it may be a big rush early on and that may affect the result. This three race winner as the Eddie Stakes to his name winning that race with a confident three quarter length margin. He came up short over this trip in The Barrera Stakes but that was a better race than this and he proved his mettle by holding on in a competitive overnight last time out. His works are strong and he holds obvious claims.

7 Orange Skeleton, trained by Chili King Stables

Faced a huge task last time out in the LA Derby but ran pretty well to be seventh and was still very competitive at this trip. His wins and bets form before that came on turf but his last two efforts on dirt suggest he may be better on this surface and as long as he sprints well he could well be in the fight at the end.

8 Supervolt, trained by Team 7 Illusions

It often happens that the horse with the best form over the trip and in the company has to carry the handicap of the outside gate and that has happened again today with this stakes winning son of Charley Farley. His win in The Bernhardt last time out saw him record a speed figure of 99 which is just about the best in the field. Before that he had managed a great fourth in the Aristides at grade three where he was beaten less than a length.

SUMMARY

There really isn’t much between a few of them here and I would’ve gone for Supervolt had he got a better draw. But with the best horses drawn wide today there may be a speed dual up front and that could ruin his chances. With that in mind I am going for Actually to nab the win with To A Tune running big for second.
