Durante Stakes Sees Established Form Taking on the Unknown

Durante Stakes – Grade III
DMR Race #6 1m Turf Graded Stake
Purse $100.000 For Fillies Two Years Old.

1 Ullswater The Sidley Stud Beschizza A

There is a lot of form around these juveniles now but that still doesnt make the picture any clearer. A brief glance at this ones form would suggest that after doing pretty well at lower level it failed when up in grade and is not a graded stakes filly. However when we put our HRP hats on we can quickly see that two nightmare draws saw her with little chance in both the Miss Grillo and the BC Juvenile Turf Sprint thus we have to ignore to some extent those runs and look at what she was doing before when drawn fairly. A glance at her Happy Ticket win and her sub 1.36 work suggests that with todays draw she will be far more competitive and must be rated a winning chance.

2 Reminisce Mb Stables Maldonado E

Her third over this trip in the BC Juvenile fillies Turf and her works which are just about the same as most older horses suggests that with the perfect draw she will start favorite to win this. If only it was that easy, however on paper it certainly is so start emptying your bank accounts on this one.

3 Stop Gap Threshold Gutierrez Mario

Bought for $66.000 after a big maiden win she is by the emerging sire Dawning and brings some strong works to the table suggesting she may be a hope. She made all in wet conditions in her last start so the margin of victory should be taken with a pinch of salt however there is certainly enough there to warrant her having a chance if she has that elusive class gene hidden in her code.

4 Scent Of A Filly Mo Mentum Farm Bejarano R

This filly gets the right jockey and a decent draw and the fact that she beat Reminisce when second in the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf, and i have already said that one has a favorites chance, she should be given a serious chance of finishing her season on a winning note. If you ignore her run in the BC she was second in the grade one Natalma prior to that and is working like a four year old BC winner so there is no reason why she shouldnt add to her very good record and take the win.

5 Golden Niagra Williams9 Van Dyke D

Another with stupendous works for a two year old she is a classic example of the difference between stakes success and working strongly. In her three attempts at graded level she has struggled to make any impression and yet when you compare her works with others in the field it is easy to see how the hidden class gene can affect them at this level. The ability is all there but until she proves she has that important addition in her code i cannot give her a winning chance.

6 For Real Wolfs Den Desormeaux K J

Again we see a sub 1.36 worker who has achieved next to nothing compared to others working the same in the field. The same applies to her as to Golden Niagra and she needs to establish she has the class gene in her code before she can be taken seriously in a strong field like this.

7 Lady Of Lord Our Athletes Velazquez J R

Yes you guessed it another that works the same as all the other fillies in this field. Beaten at allowance level last time after a good maiden win i would need to see, like a few of the others, that she has the class gene before going for her in a race like this. Anything could happen and after the race we may well be celebrating a win for her but i cannot in all confidence see her beating the top fillies in this race.

8 Unmistakable Mb Stables Arroyo N Jr

The second runner for the stable she ran brilliantly when third from a horror draw in the Natalma and then got another bad draw in the BC Juvenile fillies Turf where she had no real chance and ended up eighth. She gets no favors again today and whilst she could run well i cant see her winning from out here.

9 Prada Team 7 Illusions Garcia Mar

A daughter of Cherokee Sunset….say no more. Just that breeding gives her an upset chance but when you see a 1.35 and 1 turf mile work just a few fractions off of established older stakes males then you have to start wondering why you would go for anything else. The draw of course will be a challenge but if she can overcome that and beat this field we may see yet another superstar from this sire.

10 Sweetness High Voltage Baze T C

Well just when you have seen it all you come across runner number ten who has the fastest recent mile work in the entire field with a 1.35 flat. Bought for just $40.000 if she has the required class gene she too could overcome this awful draw.

SUMMARY

Well on form it looks simple, Scent of a Filly to beat Reminisce. But bring in the works and you quickly see a different picture. If one of the less established horses has the hidden class gene then we could see a surprising result.
