Maddy Stakes Features Five Very Even Fillies and Mares

Maddy Stakes – Grade III
SA Race #5 5 1/2f Turf Graded Stake
Purse $100.000 For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward.

1 Too Much Wisdom Mb Stables Cedillo A

This five year old looks well placed here in a short field off the one box. Like so many these days she has gone from a router to a sprinter with no real change to her form which hasn’t been too bad. True she hasn’t hit the heights this year that she has done in previous seasons but Mb seems to be able to coax these types to win races like this.

2 Appealing Jewel John Henry Espinoza V

Not only does she get the three year old weight allowance but she also gets the prized two draw which may be enough to give her enough of an edge of a couple of her more illustrious rivals. Consistent at ungraded stakes level she may have only won one this year but she has been beaten less than a length in a handful of competitive stakes races so this may just be a good opportunity for her to add win number two.

3 Plucky Personality Simmer Down Stable Smith M E

This six year old had Appealing Jewel a length or two back in The Very One earlier in the year and hasn’t done badly since. A solid sprinter she has always been competitive at ungraded level and below but seems to lack the class factor of a few of the others.

4 Dodge Challenger John Henry Franco G

Has struggled a little this year as a four year old without the weight allowance but has been solid enough and represents a fair chance. A little outclassed in the KD Ladies Sprint last time her form before that at this sort of level was pretty competitive. A winning chance in a tight little field.

5 Royally Bred High Voltage Rispoli U

The other three year old in the field with the obvious benefits of weight allowance she doesn’t get the draw but may get away with it in a small field. She took the Melody Of Colors earlier in the year with Appealing Jewel behind and was a pretty impressive winner of the UnzipMe Stakes last time again with that same horse behind. Looks the best of the three’s but will the draw kill her chances?

SUMMARY

I think Royally Bred may have the edge here even with the wide draw but this is a very even field with nothing really jumping out of the form book.
