The Sun Shines in The Sugar Swirl

The Sugar Swirl – Grade III
6 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $100.000 Filly & Mare 3 Year Olds And Up.

1st You Are My Sunshine, trained by Stone Creek Farm
This three year old daughter of General Assembly was a fitting winner of this end of year grade three. Firstly in a year so dominated by three year olds it was good to see atleast one consistency running to the end of a season. Secondly as the early season and summer was dogged by wide drawn on speed horses struggling to hold their speed throughout a race it was good to see a wide draw go to the front and hold on. This was a good effort after such a poor run in the BC and much more like the good run she put in in the PID Masters. The question now of course is can she beat next seasons three year olds which is a question that i fear i know the answer to. Finally we saw the first 4 covered by a neck at the finish which is yet another consistency to see the end of the season.

2nd = City Twirl, trained by Mo Mentum Farm
She was taken back from the inside draw and flew last to just fail by a head in a 4 way photo finish. This run will see her in good shape next year when the weight allowance is removed and she has a fair shot for a few months atleast.

2nd =  Rocket Fuel, trained by Team 7 Illusions
Beaten a similar distance in a very similar time to her last race, the class system was shown to be exactly what it is here as she basically ran the same in a one win allowance compared to a grade three stakes race. That is not knocking her ability though as she came into this race with just a maiden win from 4 starts so this was an encouraging step up.

4th Plucky Riddle, trained by Tiratzo
Just a neck behind at the end but she ended up with the paupers cheque. A multiple winner at lower grade her las two starts proved she can hack this class.
