The Weather Could End Up Deciding The Miss PS

The Miss PS – Grade III
PIM Race #10 6f Dirt Graded Stake
Purse $150.000 For Fillies Three Years Old.

1 Promise Me Girl Sim Speed Stable Lopez P

Comes here after a claim last time out, but I don’t think that tells the whole picture about this promising filly. In five starts she has never been worse than second with three wins including a debut win at the free track. Now on the face of it two claiming wins and a free track maiden shouldn’t be competitive at grade three level, but she won her claimer last time out in a sub 57 time and been working in the low 1.11’s suggesting she has the ability if the class gene is there. I like the fact she gets an inside draw and has history with the jockey, and she would be my very lively dark horse in this race.

2 Dolly P Arindel Saez L

You couldn’t get more of a contrast between Promise Me Girl and this one who has a list of great performances at the highest level. She was second in the Las Virgenes on seasonal debut and then a close fifth in the Davona Dale before a great second in the grade one Ashland. Her last start saw her beaten just over a length in the Eight Belles and she ran like this trip was right up her alley that day. With strong works and top form, she must be the one to beat on paper.

3 Lysistrata Riggins Racing Velazquez J R

The trainer has been building their stable back up with gusto in recent months, and this filly looks a nice addition. Bought for $240.000 after a slashing maiden win, she has quickly looked worth every cent picking up a third at stakes level before a brilliant all the way win in the Bourbonette Oaks last time. The one thing to remember about that Oaks win was the fact that the track was off, so the form cannot be relied upon too heavily, but she beat a good field. I think if it is wet today, she may win by a street, but a dry track brings her back to the pack and makes her a less obvious choice.

4 Galloway Rock Creek Centeno D E

With two wins from four, she is a filly with potential and she certainly must be brought into calculations for this. A good third in the Cicada is sandwiched between her two wins so we know she has the ability at this level. She could be ready to win, but I just have a nagging feeling she may need a bit more time at this level. A top four chance for sure.

5 Smokin Cara Alydar Stables Boyce F

Like Lysistrata, her best form seems to have come with rain and her trouncing of the field in the Star Shoots last time was certainly testament to that. Looking at her form, however, I think she has something to offer on a dry track, but her ability to keep up early on may be the biggest draw back on a fast track. The rain certainly helps her on that score, but she was equally impressive in the ATBA Sales Stakes on a dry track so if the pace plays to her strengths, she could be a lively outsider.

6 Cornmeal Porridge Night Rider Stables Karamanos HA

The winner of her last three from just four starts she gets her chance today to take a giant leap. She certainly deserves a shot, but her winning times and work times suggest she may struggle a little especially with this wide draw.

7 Devils Bride Fractious Hernandez R M

She is probably the best worker in the field, and if she can run up to her very close second in the grade two Beaumont last time, then she has to be a big chance. She is another who seems a little better on a wet track, so the weather may be a big decider here, but she is working fast enough on a dry track to suggest she can run the times if she has to. There is some inconsistency through her record so we may not know what we are going to get until after the race, but these wide draws can be an advantage on this new race engine, so I would definitely be putting her in my top three.

SUMMARY

Well, if it rains then box the trifecta with Devils Bride, Smokin Cara and Lysistrata, but if it doesn’t, then the picture could change dramatically. I like Promise Me Girl as a bit of an outsider and the best on form on a dry track is probably Dolly P, so I may box that exacta if the rain stays away.
