Things are Looking “Ineffable” in The Phipps Stakes

The TwinTowersRacing’s black five year old mare Ineffable has been in complete control over at Oaklawn Park in her past three starts, taking home victories in both the Gr. II Azeri and the Gr. I Apple Blossom Handicap. Trainer has been keen on the mile and a sixteenth distance in her past four, so another run at it can only continue to polish her winning ways.

  • The Phipps Stakes ( Gr. I ) Purse $700.000
  • Belmont Park- For Fillies and Mares Four years old and Up
  • eight and one half furlongs- Main Track
  • June 8th, 2019

Twelve runners will be going post ward for this event, with of course Mb Stables sending out a pair of runners to help with the odds of winning. Another event that helps to send its winner to the Breeders Cup later in the season, this event giving you the golden ticket to compete in the Distaff. Nice thing about the Distaff, if you are unable to claim a victory here, you have six more events to prosper from in the future.

Here’s the field for Saturdays race;

1.Ineffable ( TwinTowersRacing ) Jockey- Pennington F – As mentioned previously, is coming off back to back Graded company victories and a runner-up effort three starts ago in the Gr. III Bayakoa. Rider is back from her most recent victory, and her times and SRF numbers have been on the rise consistently. Has the number one post, and should have the number one placing at the end.

2.Indian River Queen ( South Beach Racing ) Jockey- Jaramillo E– Has been earning her paychecks staying at the seven eights of a mile distance for her past six starts. While she was in command of the Gr. I Humana Distaff last time out, the sloppy conditions may have played a factor in her placing fifth at the wire. Trainer really loves the four year old out of Moment Of Madness, and is unafraid to stretch her out another three sixteenth. Can play a role.

3.Too Much Wisdom ( Mb Stables ) Jockey- Beschizza A.- Opened up this season with a mile and a sixteenth victory in the Gr. III HOU Ladies Classic. Caught a muddy condition last time out in the Gr. I La Troienne Stakes as the post time favorite, and managed to close up for second. Has never gone higher then 9-2 with the betting public, so she deserves some respect today. In the hunt here once again.

4.Introverted ( Gdp Inc ) Jockey- Wilson E J – Has only come to the table in regards to Graded company events in her past three, with some keen results. Was a Maid of Honor in her past two tries, the Gr. I Apple Blossom behind Ineffable, and recently the Gr. III Allaire Distaff at Pimlico. With the Apple Blossom event, she did have to use up a little energy in the opening clubhouse turn to get ahead from an outside post, and that shouldn’t be the case today, so she could pull off a victory.

5.Oyster Puff ( Mb Stables ) Jockey – Talamo J – Second entry for this trainer, will more then likely try to sit just off the pace from the early speed, and make her presence felt in the final stages. Is coming off a narrow victory in the Gr. II Ruffian Handicap against a smaller field of four at this track. Surprising to note, that in twenty seven career starts, she has yet to compete at the mile and a sixteenth distance. Is first time a charm for her? We will have to wait and see.

6.Jinxed Queen ( Joshua Stables ) Jockey – Centeno D E – Has been struggling to find a top two finish in her three Graded starts this season, so I was a bit taken back that she recent sold for a nice $650.000 tag just last month. Yes granted, she did take home six wins out of nine starts last season, and they were substantial victories, but will need to get her feel back. Trainer believes the answer is in the blinkers, as they come off for this event.

7.Misty Firefox ( Crocker Ggs ) Jockey- Bejarano R. – This is this trainers top active thoroughbred in his stables, and she comes out of his top broodmare as well. Its been a long uphill claim for Crocker since he won his first Graded event with Sure Shot Lady in the Beaugay back in 2016, and he is hoping this four year old can bring home Graded victory number twenty one. Has eight wins in sixteen starts, and almost $1600.000 in career earnings. Can ruffle some feathers here.

8.Sports Creek ( Estero Farms ) Jockey – Lanerie C J – Has been making the most of the seven furlong distance, taking home her two most recent Graded titles in the Fritchie Stakes and the Inside Information Stakes. Has used a stalking effort in both of those events, making the move down the lane late. Opening up the distance here should work well for her as long as the timing is right when it comes time to fire.

9.Queenwood ( Smokey Stover ) Jockey – Gaffalione T – Went off as post time favorite when she raced in the Gr. I Beholder Stakes back in March, where she managed a runner-up effort. That affair took place back in mid March and she has been unraced since. The winner from that race has drawn the outside post for this event. Time off could either help her or hurt her, and her works needed to be a little crisper as well. Not to my liking.

10.Shake It Off ( Our Athletes ) Jockey – Velazquez J R – The elder of this group at six years old, she definitely has a bag of knowledge when it comes to racing. Is coming off a huge win in the Gr. I Humana Distaff in the slop, where she finished ahead of three other runners today. Veteran rider was in the irons for that event, and he gets back aboard today. Main threat against this group.

11.Ghost Road ( Fractious ) Jockey – Ortiz I Jr – After finishing in the top three of her last three starts, Team 7 Illusions has past the torch onto her new interest at a bold price. She never seen any action as a three year old, and her previous rider has been called elsewhere for this event. There has been no changes made to her equipment or meds, so hopefully new instructions will keep her close. In tough.

12.Starlite Run ( D J C Racing Stables )- Franco M. – Won six straight trips to the winners enclosure up until her last event, when she would place eighth in the Gr. I Humana. After review of the replay, it definitely looked like she had a brush with Shake It Off forcing that one to drop back and regroup, and it wouldn’t really affect her till the turn for home as she gave up the ghost and just cruised to the wire. Hopefully no damage done and she is back on form here.
