Things Are Warming Up as We See a Summers Day in CD Distaff Turf Mile

CD Distaff Turf Mile – Grade II
1 Mile Turf Stake Purse $500.000 Filly & Mare 4 Year Olds And Up.

1st     Summers Day       Maxmillion Farm       Bridgmohan S X

My advice has always been back the turf king in a turf race and yet still i go elsewhere and inevitably pay the financial price as my Disney dollars melt away on the back of something else. This four year old repaid the cheap looking $100 the stable paid for her at the start of the year with a really game performance in winning by a head after running a textbook stalk. Considering she was a dual graded stakes winner last year she was clearly overlooked here and as a four year old i expect to see more improvement as the year progresses.

2nd     Shining Moments    RNP Stables      Sanchez M J

A lot of her inconsistency seems to be attached to her draw and the pace of the race because she seems to like coming late of a strong pace and that scenario worked perfectly for her today. She may well have won in another stride but the winner proved too determined in the end and today she came out second best. She like the winner will find some improvement through the year but she is a bit high maintenance in that she needs the race shape and pace to be exactly right so she will always be a bit in and out.

3rd    My Girl Makita    Smokey Stover        Gutierrez Mario

I suppose you have to lose the odd race…right….well Smokey can’t win them all and this one came up a little short. Back over what i feel is her best trip she was right in it at the end but just couldn’t compete with the top two. As a five year old i feel she may have flattened out on her improvement curve but you know with HRP anything can happen so i wouldn’t be retiring her to the paddocks just yet.

4th   Lipsticker    Our Athletes        Saez L

She looked way outclassed here but despite that took advantage of the good pace and was only beaten a length in the end. She has been a difficult filly to place as she seems to have a distinct running style which isn’t ideally suited to this race engine but this was an improved effort and she is worth keeping an eye on going forward.
