Alexandra Stakes – Grade II [KYO]
1 1/16 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $300.00 Filly 3 Year Olds.
1st Tranect Acber Farms Lopez P 15.10 1/4 1:41.62
Whatever it was that convinced this trainer to campaign this filly on the turf in sprints last year is definitely forgotten now as she takes her second grade two in two starts in dirt routes. She timed her challenge up the rail perfectly and got the break on the chasers which ultimately won her the race. This was a brave win in a tough race, and one feels she has the right attitude for a KYO and the right running style to cope with a large field.
2nd West Coast Girls Diablo Diablo Espinoza V 1 1:41.71
Considering this was only her fourth start she ran a cracker to end up second taking ground off the winner all the way to the post. A daughter of that good turf sprinter Indian Summer she seems to get her stamina from her Mother Action Girl who was fifth in the BC Juvenile Fillies and also seemed to have a turf bias. Maybe this one will as good on both surfaces as last year’s winner was.
3rd Wants It All Mo Mentum Farm Velazquez J R hd 1:42.01
Considering this was her first start since winning the BC Juvenile Fillies last year she ran a great race to be a hard closing third. She got too far back today which may have been down to race rustiness, but the same thing happened in the Oak Leaf last year and the trainer will have an eye on that in her next start.
4th Wild Water Wagon La Canada Racehorses Bejarano R 1/2 1:42.04
She raced wide and back for much of the race and though she made good ground to be fourth not totally ruining a shot at the KYO, but I do feel she may turn out to be better on the grass. Her early pace will be an issue as it is for every closer at HRP and that may ultimately be the biggest concern about her future.
