The Dust Commander Stakes
1/16th on Dirt for Four year olds and upward
Turfway Park, Florence KY
The Stranger from Jerry Garcia Racing got hammered late and flew out of the gate in good order Saturday, unlike his last start, and that made all the difference as he won with something left in the tank. The five-year-old notches win number six of his career and pushes his earning to over four hundred and fifty thousand dollars. Congrats to the connections. Speter from Sheffler Stables ran a banger and kept on trying but just could not get to the winner. Worth noting that both horses were exiting The LA Stakes. Platform from Team 7 Illusions broke last and then methodically just kept on coming to eventually run third in a visually impressive performance. Prairie Eclipse from Family Racing was off about mid-pack and was able to keep going today, eventually passing a couple rivals to complete the end of the superfecta for a barn getting some attention in the press.
Of the rest:
Freaky Obra Party from The Sidley Stud managed to split the field in a decent performance. Taken for lunch money at auction two starts back, he looks to be on the right track.
Prince Machiavelli from Wood Racing Stable pressed the pace and then faded to sixth.
Yes Yes Yes from Mojica Racing got jostled at the start and was not able to get away from the rail early while being shuffled back. Tried to make a couple moves between calls, but his fate looked sealed at the break.
Architect from Nakamura Stables was sent out in a hurry to establish the lead and held sway most of the way until tiring late to run eighth.
Skeptic and his barn (Pablo Racing Inc) had a forgettable outing Saturday as he looked very much like a short horse making his first start since early November. When the tote started to drift up, up and away you knew that you were probably in trouble.
Everything For Sale from Night Rider Stables chased the pace the whole way and then stopped late to run last.
