Trio Bands Together Once Again to Capture SUN Oaks

D J C Racing Stables trainer Dom may have found the right combination of Odd Trek and rider Jaramillo as they teamed up once again to enter the winner’s enclosure and walk away with the SUN Oaks title.

  • SUN Oaks ( KYO) – Purse $200.000
  • Sunland Park- For Three Year old Fillies
  • One Mile and One Sixteenth in distance- Main Track
  • Final Winning Time: 1:42.04 ( 3rd Fastest )

It has been seven long years since Outlaw Lover won this event for this trainer, and hopefully this sophomore filly will not follow in that one’s footsteps, as she never won a single race following this victory. Now with four wins in her past five starts, Odd Trek positioned herself wisely to the outside of a midpack of runners, and as she swung off the turn for home. she found the middle of the lane an charged on to a one length victory. She would earn herself fifty KY Oaks points to her credit, and that would shoot her up the ladder into the Top Ten and eighth place. Hopefully this trio of trainer/horse/rider will be the highlight of races to come.Looking at the weekend as a whole, this would be D J C Racing Stables only stakes victory, but he would get two runner-up efforts and two show efforts in other stakes affairs.

Battling amongst a large group of runners behind the eventual winner, Nakamura Stables Pocono Fashion would get a neck out in front of Sheza Star ( Aml Racing ) and take the runner-up purse. Fellow writer Stu had this event picked out with the top two finisher and I think I will be consulting him in future race handicapping. Pocono Fashion definitely impressed in her first try at a stakes title, and she impressed the local handicappers as well as she was made the lighter 5-1 favorite. Will be interesting to see where Nak placers her next, as she now is placed in 19th for the KY Oaks competition with 20 points.

As for Sheza Star, it was obvious that the addition of Bute for her last affair was not to her liking. Looking very much like she will be getting back to her ONT Lassie Stakes form in her next event, watch for her to return with a victory very soon with only four career starts to her credit.

The final share was awarded to Paradise Stables Chichier who just nosed out Jive Inc’s Wiperblade. She showed some lasting power in her first ever route race, and will more then likely be going longer in her future. It was also Wiperblade’s first route affair as well and first start for her new interests, so it seems that Jive has her pointed in the right direct with a brilliant closing effort today.
