Two In The Chamber But Only One Shot Needed In The Elkhorn

Elkhorn – Grade II
1 1/2 Mile Turf Stake Purse $350.000 Open 4 Year Olds And Up.

When i reviewed this race i felt that Two In The Chamber would be a good value bet and worth a bit of a punt at longer odds. Well it just shows you, what do i know!! The chimps that make up the morning line odds certainly knew something as they installed Two In The Chamber as a short odds favorite and had the grade one winner Devil Made Me Doit at 6/1 and the $450 recent purchase and Mathis Brothers Mile winner Jakarta at 30/1 !!
Here is how they ran out the Elkhorn as the chimps proved they aren’t just a hairy face.

1st       Two In The Chamber    TwinTowersRacing      Sanchez M J

Well on a new engine that looked to strongly favor on pace and give slow starters no chance we saw two races for two wins right out of the old days. Breaking a distant last, option B from the wide gate which also had the look of the old engine about it, it looked like it was race over for the five year old entire. But the pace was good and that at least gave him a chance and boy did he take it. Flying home he grabbed the lead and pulled away to win by just under a length. Two from two, both in stakes races, at this trip i would imagine the trainer will be scouring the race calendar for 12 furlong stakes races for him.

2nd   Devil Made Me Doit        Maxmillion Farm      Pereira T J

Racing the stalk from the two gate it looked like the Turf King had found the perfect spot for his grade one winner and BC Turf placed runner especially on this new engine. However today was a big turnaround on that front and we saw the closer’s in action for a change and this one got brushed aside in the final furlong. He should’ve won more than four races by now and has made a bit of a habit of being the prettiest bridesmaid since his stunning BEL Derby win. He will be a force right through to November but being a four year old will make this a tough season for him.

3rd       Cossack      Maxmillion Farm        Murrill M

Click and play HRP again as for the first time in his career this one decided to become a front runner. Clear soon after the off i was half expecting with the new engine and how it has played out so far that he would just stay there but that is not how the play book was written today and he was collared. Whatever happened on this track today he ran the right race on the wrong day but still didn’t do bad for third.

4th     Cinnamon Strike     Smokey Stover      Gutierrez Mario

After his impressive win in the Diarmida last time i was expecting a stronger effort than fourth from this one but after losing ground from the inside gate early on he just never looked comfortable and was a fairly tame fourth in the end.
