Tyson Fury Knocks Them Out on the Wire in ONT Racing Stakes

9/19/20

  3  WO     ONT Racing Stakes

            $135.000        2yo           5f  Turf        120lbs

The picks finished first and third, so… not bad.  He took first and second in the filly division but Mb Stables still got the win in this one as Tyson Fury flew down the lane to nail them on the wire, winning the ONT Racig Stakes by the slimmest of margins, getting the 5f in :56.99.  Gordon Shumway pressed the pace throughout but couldn’t hold off the winner, taking the place, just a head in front of Sadam in third.  Four lengths covered the field in this one.

We went to post with ten after the scratch of Point High and away from the gate with Flexible Pancake on the early gas, Gordon Shumway going with that one, Bad Precedent from the outside, Charleys One Love next to that one, Z Wild One, Hard Pressed and Brian The Bootmaker, Code Red Party back towards the inside, Sadam on the rail and Tyson Fury was a step slow from the gate.

Making their way around the dog-leg and to the top of the lane with two furlongs left to run, they were bunching up for the run home as Flexible Pancake had a half length lead and cut the corner on the rail, a trio giving chase from the extreme outside that included Gordon Shumway, Charleys One Love and Bad Precedent, back towards the inside Z Wild One, Hard Pressed, Code Red Party, down to the rail for Sadam, Brian the Bootmaker and Tyson Fury last.

Deep stretch and to the finish, we literally had eight horses across the track in what looked like a quarter horse race… and as they hit the wire, it was impossible to tell who was involved, let along who won… and the PHOTO light went up on the infield tote-board as the placing judge had some work to do.  After viewing the photograph, Tyson Fury had rallied from last to first, leading at the only jump that counted… on the wire, and he got the win by .01 of a second.  Gordon Shumway just missed and was a head in front of Sadam in third, then a neck to a three-horse dead-heat for fourth with Bad Precedent, Charleys One Love and Code Red Party on the wire together.  It was only a nose to Flexible Pancake in seventh, Z Wild One eighth, Hard Pressed ninth and Brian The Bookmaker closed this one out.

Tyson Fury is a 2yo gray gelded son of Fire N Fury – Quite Elusive, by Commanding, and he was bred in Cal by his owner, Mb Stables.  This was his second win from five starts and he now has earnings of $117.280.
