Wendy Looks to Take a Desert Storm

Desert Stormer – Grade III
SA Race #2 6f Dirt Graded Stake
Purse $100.000 For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward.

1 Silver Jazzmin The Sidley Stud Espinoza V

Winner of her last five in a row this is her chance to put that experience to good use at a level that she has yet to compete. True her last three wins have come at lowly FON but with little class system it wouldn’t be wise to write her off because of that. I am not convinced she can make this leap but with a great draw and a great win record she should be involved in the finish.

2 Always Wendy Mb Stables Gryder A T

Fourth beaten a length in the grade one Ashland and the perfect draw should really be good enough form to see her home today. The step back in trip would be a concern in real life but doesn’t matter much here at HRP and she has won a stakes race over this trip so its not enough to put me off.

3 Karama Childs Play Velez J I

Broke her maiden by a head last time out and was then bought for $60 by her current owner. Clearly a nice filly she should run well but i can’t see her being ready to beat the likes of Always Wendy.

4 As The World Turns Nakamura Stables Cedillo A

Another that has won five ina row she was in a high end claimer last time and was taken for $75 by the stable of the moment in Nakamura Stables after that same stable let her go for $20 in a claimer last year. The downside for this one of course is the weight for age allowance, without it she would be right in this but with it she will need some luck to see her overcoming the three year olds.

5 Malagan Girl Spankys Barn Van Dyke D

A consistent sort she won the Cicada over this trip from a similar draw so must be considered. She is sure to run herself into the ground and is a very safe each way bet.

6 Marbles Blitz Aer Stables Bejarano R

Claimed from a ten dollar maiden at the start of the year she has gone on to win two stakes races for her new owner since and comes right into this despite a poor draw and a 3Lb penalty. Another with a good chance but she will need luck from the draw.

SUMMARY

This looks like a good chance for Always Wendy who gets plenty of ticks in boxes for a race like this. The rest are all pretty even but the Nak factor may see the five year old prevail against the odds for the second spot.
