Wet Track Seals the Result in PEN Mile

PEN Mile – Grade II
1 Mile Turf Stake Purse $500.000 Open 3 Year Olds.

1st   Name Drop  Mb Stables  Colon L H

This couldn’t be simplier for Mb Stables, enter 3, each with different going prefernces and then let the wet scratch remove the other two should it come up wet. Plan A came up trumps as the rains came and this son of Well Informed made it three from three on an off track with an easy two length win. Sitting off the pace he cruised up as the leaders faded and quickly put the result beyond doubt striding home an impressive winner. It still remains to be seen whether he can do it on a dry track but the way the weather has been this year he could see soft tracks all the way to the BC.

2nd   Regret Nothing  Estero Farms  Maldonado E

Wide gate, wide gate speed push, non stayer on a wet surface, it couldn’t have set up better for his main rival. Clear for a lot of the race he failed to show the tenacity that he did in the TAM Derby despite having acted on this surface in the Bourbon last year he seemed to toil in the soft ground. Was it the surface, was it the wide gate? well i guess we will see the next time he runs.
3rd   Cobra Skull  Smokey Stover  Pennington F

Failed to quicken up in the soft ground and just whacked away for third in a pretty average effort. Perhaps a dry track will help him pay back some more of the $120 he cost or maybe this is the best he is, again only time will tell.

4th   Cheapsnake  John Henry  Prat F

Went to the stalk and faded at the end, the off track leaves a few unanswered questions.
