Kaboom goes the tote board… Wheel Day, sent off
at 28/1 odds used a viscous late kick to take the CC
Glass Slipper by two lengths, getting the mile distance in
1:35.08. Lemon Danz used her late effort to take the second spot
while Saarinen was third.
The field of eight got away for the one-turn mile event with Copper For
Me sprinting away for the early lead. The trio of Fertile Crescent,
Raging Angel and Saarinen gave chase, Wheel Day just in behind that
group. Another length to Lemon Danz, Land Of The Speed to her inside
and Informed Secret was the early trailer.
Continued to down the back stretch, now five furlongs to run and Copper
For Me continued to show the way as Saarinen moved up to keep that one
honest. A gap of a length and a half to Fertile Crescent between
Raging Angle on the rial and Wheel Day on her flank. Another gap of
two to Lemon Danz, Land Of The Speed on her inside and Informed Secret was
still under wraps, eight lengths from the leader.
Midway on the far turn and five-sixteenths to run, Copper For Me had done
enough as Saarinen moved up to lead by a neck. Wheel Day was five
wide and moving up quickly, Fertile Crescent and Raging Angel moving
together. A gap of three back to Lemon Danz, Land Of The Speed to
her inside and Informed Secret still trailed.
Now inside the final furlong and to the finish, Saarinen’s lead was being
whittled away with each jump and Wheel Day was the one with the knife…
up to take the lead and pulling away in the final stages, going under the
wire in front by two lengths. Lemon Danz full of run from the
outside and up to take the second spot, with Saarinen flattening out late
for third. Raging Angel continued on well for fourth, then Land Of
The Speed passing tiring rivals for fifth, Fertile Crescent in sixth,
Informed Secret in seventh and Copper For Me tiring to be last.
Wheel Day is a 3yo filly by Black Friday – Magneley On
Wheels, by Charlemagne, and she was bred by GDP Inc in Pa. This was
her third win from eleven starts and now shows $132.050 in earnings.
Claimed for $14.000, this filly seems to be getting better by the start
and we should be looking for her future races. Congratulations to
Savage Racing Stable and to Wheel Day.
