The Mother Goose – Grade II
BEL Race #3 1 1/16m Dirt Graded Stake
Purse $250.000 For Fillies Three Years Old.
All eyes would’ve been on Naples in this race but sadly she was withdrawn we can only assume, because of the outside draw. Whilst her withdrawal certainly takes a huge amount of interest out of the race we are still left with quality fillies looking to find there way to the BC. Here is how they line up.
1 Mag Ol Greyfriars Stable Karamanos HA
This filly has an amazing race history and it has only raced four times! Starting off in an $8 claimer back in December 2020 with a pre race work of 1.39 and 4 for the mile she won that race by an easy three lengths and found a claim from Team 7 Illusions. They tried a state-bred allowance a few months later and she again did the business winning by a length. Then came the FG Oaks, just 3 months after her maiden claimer debut and she made it three from three in exactly the same way she had won her first two. She was looking like the find of the year when Greyfriars Stable went to $400, a $392 profit in four months for Team 7, to secure this freakish filly and lined her up in the grade one Acorn. A much faster early pace saw her drop right out the back in that race and whilst she made up plenty of ground by the end she was an uninspiring eighth. Her recent work suggests this filly is still a prospect but it is clear the new stable will have to find a bit more early pace to put her close enough at the end to use her devastating turn of foot. The draw will certainly help with that and i hope she gets back to winning ways today.
2 Flickering Light Team 7 Illusions Cancel E
Another claim by Team 7 Illusions, this one hasn’t quite had the success of Mag Ol but she looked better than a claimer last time in the Critical Eye and is working well enough to be a factor. With only three runs under her belt she isn’t easy to assess but the speed figures suggest and the draw say she has a great chance.
3 Intolerable Mb Stables Talamo J
An ultra consistent filly she has never been out of the first three and has 4 wins from 12 starts. A close second in the Matron last year she followed the KYO qualification route and performed very well running a place in both the Alexanda and The GP Oaks where she was only beaten a head. She went to the KYO and started a 40/1 which was a surprise but she ran more like her form than her price ending up third after looking a real chance for the win in the stretch. This is her best trip as she proved in the Summertime Oaks last time and you would expect her to be favorite for this race and very likely a winner.
4 Shining Moments RNP Stables Pennington F
Unbeaten as a two year old she looked to be a big prospect for the Fillies races but has been a shade disappointing, certainly at the start of the year. A decent start in the Suncoast she then failed in both the Davona Dale and the GP Oaks with no real excuses. Taken back a step she has won her last two in lesser class so its just a matter of whether she can do the job this time. I am not sure she can and she may just prove to be a little off this grade at this time.
5 Notorious Return TwinTowersRacing Moran D
She was a pretty average two year old but has found the upward slope on her improvement curve this year placing third in the Ashland before winning the Black Eyed Susan and placing fourth in the Acorn last time out. She has clearly taken the step up and will again be a force in this race.
6 Modesta Fractious Bravo J
Won her maiden right at he end of her juvenile season and came out a much improved filly as a three year old. Beaten a head in the Alexanda, then a good third in the Santa Ysabel preceded a huge run for a half length third in the SA Oaks. Her last start in a CD Allowance was very ordinary so it was a surprise to see her collect a good sale price when her current owner bought her for $250. Her previous three runs certainly put her in with a big chance with those form lines crossing a few others in the field and leaving her on top.
7 Amalfi D J C Racing Stables Sanchez M J
Gets a rotten draw but is a filly i like a lot ad she may be good enough to still get some of this. Her trainer tends to move them around as far as trips go and she won the Miss PS over six furlongs last time after winning the AZ Oaks and finishing fifth in the Ashland previously. Her works are on the mark it may al depends on how the race engine treats her from this draw.
8 Naples Arindel – Scratch –
SUMMARY
An interesting race it will probably see the powerful influence of Mb Stabes make Intolerable the favorite to win. I do think if things go her way then Mag Ol could run a race but i think the more obvious threats will come from Notorious Return and Amalfi.
