Windian Comes From Off the Pace to Win The Appleton

The Appleton – GIII
GP Race 8 1M – InTurf
Purse $100.000
Four Year Olds and Up Fillies and Mares

1st Windian, trained by Team 7 Illusions

Now this filly ran this race way differently than I thought she was going to. I definitely thought she would show some early speed and go towards the lead like she had been but she sat way off the pace and rallied to get the win. She ran the race in 1:33.52 and earned $60.000 for the win.

2nd City Never Sleeps, trained by Saratoga Stud

Well this filly ran a very good race for her first ever start on the turf for sure. She sat right off of the early pace and was in a very good spot and made a little run but just could not hold off the winner. She still ran very good to get second though and she should improve off of this race.

3rd I Justwantthe Purple , trained by Gdp Inc

And this filly right rounded out the trifecta with a pretty good closing run from pretty far back. She was near last early on and she ended up closing very well to at least get up for third. She was only beaten three quarters of a length by the winner. She ran a very good third for sure.

4th Bounding Away, trained by Angelos Stable

My top pick right here did not run all that bad at all and was only beaten a length in the end. She sat right off of the pace and was right there for most of the way but just got passed up late. She ran a pretty good race and at least hit the board and earned a couple of dollars.

Summary

Well the winner definitely surprised me in how she won the race because I thought she would go to the lead or be right near it but she was actually taken back and she made a big run to win. I think that might be her new running style moving forward because it worked really well. Congratulations to Windian and Team 7 Illusions.
