The story of the ’21 Man o War (GI) was weather… a turf course labeled as Good caused a slew of scratches and certainly changed the complexion of the race. In the end, Winter Solstice took the win by a length, getting the mile and three-eights in 2:13.80, earning his fourth win in five starts. It was a hard closing effort that got the job done for the John Henry owned gelding, sent off as a 7/1 outsider. Annihilator pressed the pace throughout but could not go with the winner late, settling for the second spot. Concerto Of Eggs was dismissed as the 12/1 outsider and took the third spot.
Winter Solstice is a 6yo bay gelded son of Winter Warrior – Dangerous Lady, by Chai Latte, and he was bred by Easy Money Stables in Cal. Acquired by Private Purchase for $550.000, this was his ninth win from thirty-two starts and he now has earnings of $2,426.990.

Winter Solstice broke in hand, rated well back, trailed into the lane, responded when asked, split horses, drew away late. Annihilator tracked the pace brief lead in the lane, second best. Concerto Of Eggs rated back while saving ground, advanced with three furlongs to run, no excuse. Workload sent from the gate, headed just inside the furlong marker, folded. First Class Male mid-pack 2p, wide into the lane, tired, and was deactivated after the race.
