Wolfmoon Bay Can’t Draw His Pension Just Yet

The Brooklyn – Grade II

1 1/2 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $500.000 Open 4 Year Olds And Up.

1st Wolfmoon Bay Night Rider Stables Castellano J J

In 2013 he won an $8 maiden claimer, his only win that year. In 2014 he only won once as well and that was in a $25 claimer. In 2015 he managed an allowance win but was back in claimers soon after and again only won the once. In 2016 again just the one win again in a $25 claimer. In 2017 he managed two wins, one in a $20 claimer, the other in a starter allowance. In 2018 he won two $20 claimers but in 2019 he didn’t win a race.
It seems this horse who was claimed by his current owner 5 years ago was waiting for the year he turned nine years old because this year he has achieved two things he couldn’t achieve in 6 previous years of racing, firstly a stakes win and now a grade two win beating a previous BEL and BC Marathon winner.
I am sure his owner will say he always thought he would win a $500 race and had been working towards this day for 5 years but you have to say this was a little ‘left field’ especially when you see the huge finish and fairly easy win in the end. He has never achieved triple digit speed figures before but today at an age most horses are pecking at grass in a big empty HRP paddock he got his first making this win all the more inexplicable to all those except the owner and those with a crystal ball and a lot of patience.

So can this nine year old go on from here to be a BC Classic contender? It would make a year we saw a crazy KYD and a crazy change to private sales somewhat complete so just maybe it could happen.

2nd Questionable Mb Stables Court J K

I must admit as this horse got a soft trip in behind the speed and then moved out to challenge in the stretch i was already writing about another Mb win. But from the clouds came a pensioner and as unlikely as it was he was beaten by Wolfmoon Bays blistering turn of foot. The Queens Plate winner has always promised to be more than he has delivered but maybe on the evidence of this race his best days are five years away.

3rd Magne Account RNP Stables Corrales G

Stalked the lead and kept on really well for third with another solid effort. There’s a good win in this one but he continues his honest efforts and certainly is paying his way in the stable.

4th L A Raw D J C Racing Stables Contreras L

Fourth in this race last year and fourth again this year, he is nothing if not consistent. He won the Suburban Handicap after his fourth last year and his trainer will be hoping for the same this year.
