GP 9    The Holy Bull Stakes (GIII)

   $250.000            3yo               1 1/16m   Dirt            121lbs

I don’t care what anyone says, Brittle makes me have heart palpitations.  Sitting back in the field of Saturday’s The Holy Bull Stakes (GIII) was just what you would want to see, but that stretch drive was something out of an Alfred Hitchcock film.  But, in the end, the Aer Stables’ trained gelding got the job done, yet again, and won by a nose in a final time of 1:42.01 for the mile and a sixteenth distance.  Moment In Time was second, by the slimest of margins, and Telladifferentstory was a head off of that pair, taking the third spot.

The field of eleven got away from the gate and made the short run into the clubhouse turn, with Telladifferentstory from the far outside, Guy Lafleur next to that one, Red Flag and Heretowinthisfight back towards the inside, Lord Of Peace, Hollywood Condition just to the inside of that one, Tall Greek Stud, Brittle and Red Storm, Belo Herizonte and Moment In Time was the early trailer.

On to the backside and five furlongs left to run, Telladifferentstory was in front by two and a half lengths.  Red Flag between horses, Guy Lafleur from the outside, Heretowinsthisfight from the outside, then two lengths back to Hollywood Condition along the inside, Tall Greek Stud next to that one, another length to Brittle, then Lord Of Peace, Belo Horizonte, Red Storm and Moment In Time was still the back marker.

Moving down the the backside and now into the far turn, Telladifferentstory continued to show the way by two lengths.  Heretowinthisfight in second, a length in front of Red Flag on the inside, Guy Lafleur next to that one.  Another length and a half to Brittle,
Tall Greek Stud out wide, Hollywood Condition along the inside, then another two lengths back to Lord Of Peach, Belo Horizonte next to that one, a gap to Moment In Time and Red Storm was now at the rear.

To the top of the lane and nearing the furlong marker, Heretowinthisfight now up to stick a head in front, Telladifferentstory trying to battle back, Brittle now into third and looming, Red Flag next to him, Guy Lafleur on the flank and Tall Greek Stud on the outside of that one.  Lord Of Peace on the inside of that one, Hollywood Condition up the rail, Moment In Time on the far outside, Belo Horizonte and Red Storm needed to
get going.

Inside the inal 150-yards and to the finish, four across the track, Telladifferentstory, Moment In Time down the outside, Brittle inching up, Heretowinthisfight trying to do just that… but as they hit the wire, it was too close to call and the PHOTO sign went up.  After viewing the instant video replay, the stewards saw that Brittle somehow, some way, hit the wire first, which just seems to be his way.  Moment In Time was just a tick off of that one and had to settle for the second spot and Telladifferentstory was thid.   Heretowinthisfight was fourth, with  Tall Greek Stud another length back in fifth.  Belo Horizonte and Tall Greek Stud were in a dead heat for sixth, Lord Of Peace in eighth,
Guy Lafleur in ninth, Red Storm was tenth ad Hollywood Condition closed this one out.

Brittle, the 2yo Male Champion, is a bay gelding by Brutal – A Princess, by A Onez, and was bred by his owner, Aer Stables, in NY.  Now showing five wins from eight starts, none by as a much as a length, he shows earnings of $1,695.480.  I think we know this one is headed to CD in May, but what’s next…  we all continue to watch.

Brittle midpack, moved forward when asked, boxed, found a seam and got up in the end. Moment In Time no early speed, responded when asked, up to contend but could not get there. Telladifferentstory set the pace to mid-stretch, headed, continued on well. Heretowinthisfight good early speed, up to track the leader, continued on well but
could not improve position. Red Flag always in contention, could not find more. Tall Greek Stud evenly, no threat. Belo Hoizonte slow early, passed tiring rivals. Lord Of Peace some early speed, tired. Guy Lafleur early pace, stopped. Red Storm never involved, outrun. Hollywood Condition mid-pack, tired.
