Bowman Mill
Purse $250.00 – For Two Year Olds
6 Furlongs – Dirt
Keeneland – October 24, 2026
The 6th edition of the Bowman Mill will bring together a field of nine two-year-olds looking to add a first stakes victory to their résumé! This race has served as a big steppingstone for these young juveniles as the past two winners have gone on to capture graded stakes later in their career. Also, the purse money has gradually climbed from $150.00 at the inaugural running to $250.00 this year while the distance and surface have remained unchanged. No owner has won the Bowman Mill more than once, so the leaderboard remains tied at one victory apiece. However, Mb Stables has a chance to break that tie with his new acquisition and take sole possession of the top spot. Boomtown’s homebred, Hard Nut, set the stakes record back in 2024 when he broke from the gate as the favorite and pulled clear down the stretch to win by two lengths. The final time for the six furlongs was 1:09.01. This year’s field presents an intriguing handicapping challenge, so let’s take a closer look at each contender!
- Exterminate – (Williams9, A A. Gallardo) Exterminate brings a strong pedigree as his dam, Chai Mom, is a multiple graded stakes winner. He followed consecutive third place finishes with a narrow maiden victory against California-breds in July. Williams9 purchased this gelding for $35.00 one month later and sent him straight into the Hopeful (G1) for his first stakes attempt. The son of Vision Harbor finished eleventh of twelve that day—beaten five lengths over the seven furlongs at odds of 999-1. This looks like a more manageable assignment and distance. Though, improvement is needed to make his presence felt against these.
- Boomer – (Serenity Stables, P. Lopez) The field’s only stakes winner after he broke his maiden in the Hoover at BTP by three-quarters of a length. Boomer nearly followed up that victory in the Hopeful (G1) after setting the pace and finishing second by that same margin. Serenity Stables then stretched the colt to a one-turn mile for the Champagne (G1) last time out. He stayed close to the leaders before weakening to eighth down the lane, though he was only three lengths behind at the wire. Boomer’s runner-up effort at SAR two back gives him strong credentials against this group if he can reproduce that performance.
- System Breaker – (Diablo Diablo, F T. Alvarado) Homebred for Diablo Diablo remains a maiden through five starts despite a pair of seconds and a third. System Breaker showed speed from the gate before fading to fifth over six furlongs in July. A shorter assignment at ALB last time out produced a better result as this California-bred chased the leader throughout and missed by just a quarter of a length. That was his second narrow defeat after falling a neck short earlier in the year. System Breaker has shown enough ability to be competitive against maidens but will obviously need more to handle winners in his stakes debut.
- Serving The King – (Pan Farms, V. Espinoza) Serving The King brings a win and two seconds from just three appearances. Pan Farms purchased this gelding privately for $25.00 in April before he led throughout a four-length maiden score in June as the favorite. He then stepped into the Graduation Stakes at DMR in August and chased the winner home to finish second by a length against California-breds. Serving The King returns from more than two months away with a steady series of works behind him. His speed and consistency are appealing as he looks to carry that form into open stakes company.
- Under Pressure – (Nakamura Stables, R. Santana Jr.) This chestnut colt has collected two wins from four starts since joining Nakamura Stables for just $4.00. His lone stakes appearance came in the Bashford Manor, where he finished ninth back in June. This son of Compress has progressed nicely since then with a runner-up finish over seven furlongs at ALB followed by an N1X allowance victory at FL. Under Pressure rallied from three lengths off the pace to get up by a head in that latest six-furlong outing. Surprisingly, this is the only horse in the field this year with more than one win. Experience could give him the upper hand in here.
- U Can Call Me Al – (Mb Stables, S X. Bridgmohan) Mb Stables unveils his $100.00 private August purchase after nearly three months on the shelf with some new equipment. Connections have added Lasix and a shadow roll for this start. U Can Call Me Al won on debut in April before finishing tenth in the KY Juvenile later that month. Two allowance attempts followed with a fifth at WO and a last-place finish over a sloppy SAR track last time out. Recent workouts offer encouragement with six furlongs in 1:10.65 and five furlongs in 58.40. This gelding needs to rediscover his early promise as his new owner bids for a second victory in this race.
- Megaladon – (Jokerjoes, A R. Rodriguez) Megaladon improved on a fifth-place debut by breaking his maiden on the main track at GP in June. The Jokerjoes homebred edged fellow Florida-breds by a nose over five and a half furlongs before moving into N1X allowance company last month. He tracked the leader throughout that six-and-a-half-furlong contest and stayed within reach through the stretch. A third-place finish left him just half a length short in an encouraging first attempt against winners. Megaladon’s stakes debut presents a tougher challenge, but there is room for further development with only three outings behind him.
- Nutty Bug – (Acber Farms, B. Curtis) Acber Farms homebred has shown promise on both surfaces through just three career starts. Nutty Bug followed up a runner-up debut in the free-track circuit with a one-length maiden victory against Pennsylvania-breds on the dirt. His connections then switched to turf last time out for the lucrative KD Juvenile Sprint. This son of Stroud advanced from midpack to finish fifth, while beaten only three-quarters of a length over six and a half furlongs. That close finish in a large stakes field gives him a credible chance to make an impact here. The only question is the change in surface.
- The Nightlife – (Serenity Stables, J R. Velazquez) The Nightlife completes Serenity Stables’ pair and arrives off a narrow defeat in his stakes debut. He broke his maiden on the third attempt at SAR back in August after rallying from ninth to score by half a length over six furlongs. This gelding then stretched to six and a half furlongs for the Dixon Jr Memorial at PID last time out. Another late run carried him into second, where he missed by just a quarter of a length. A lively pace could play to this California-bred’s strengths and give the stable a closing threat to complement Boomer’s early speed. Definitely a contender.
