Great Bounty with Close Win in BC Turf Sprint

BC Turf Sprint – Grade I
                                                                       5 ½ furlongs turf Purse $1,000.000
                                                                          for three-year-olds and upward

1st Drabfantasy’s Great Bounty spent the last half of 2018 dedicated to long routes which included a win in the 1 ½ mile Breeders Stakes at WO in August. Then, in October, his connections decided to send him out in the six-furlong Nearctic Stakes at WO and he scored a driving wing at the shorter distance. To prove that it was no fluke, Great Bounty came from of the pace in the BC Turf Sprint to register a neck win. The three-year-old colt raced mid-pack through the early fractions before unleashing a late run that took him to the lead in the final strides for a game win over best turf sprinters in the virtual world.

2nd In only his 12th race, Gdp Inc’s Quarter King dueled with the winner to the turn home and moved with that one to battle into the stretch and fought gamely to the wire to come up just short of the win.

3rd RNP Stables’ Derby Pip returned to his form from earlier in the summer to fire a rousing late run for third. Looking at his past performances, one might have thought the twilight of his career had drawn the curtain, and watching him in the early strides one might have thought the same as he loafed far back, but as they turned into the stretch, he fired a strong late run that brought him to within a length of the winner at the wire.

4th Sharis Stables’ Desmond, the race favourite based mostly on his summer racing performances, broke sharply, dueling with Champion Farley for the lead, took over the lead around the far turn, establishing a quarter length lead, only to be reeled in by the first three and fought gamely to the wire to be still within a length when the photo was taken.

5th Mb Stables’ Gleaming Spirit closed from far back to finish in a dead heat for fifth.

5th Team 7 Illusions’ The Grandmaster forced the issue to the stretch and weakened.

7th Chili King Stables’ Vino Bambino closed too late.

8th Straight Arrow’s Spirits Feronia showed little.

9th D J C Racing Stables’ Apricot.

10th Our Athletes’ Bolden.

11th Smokey Stover’s Neon Wolf.

12th Mb Stables’ Dignified.

13th Mb Stables’ Champion Farley.

14th Smokey Stover’s Falesia
