Loaded Field for Edgewood on CD Turf

5/1/2020

CD 2    Edgewood (GII)

     $300.000          3yoF           1 1/16m Turf          122lbs

It’s a big weekend of sophomore stakes racing at CD and although not one of the major draws, the 2020 Edgewood (GII) has a fine group of fillies set to go a mile and a sixteenth on the Louisville lawn.

We have the handicapping crew back together for this one, although we are using the interwebs to discuss things and I landed on Too Scared To Party as my top pick.  She was second in the Appalachian and faces the winner again, but I think she flips the script and gets the win here.

I’ll put Beggars Benison in the the second spot and the lightly raced filly sure is a classy sort and I think her best races are in front of her.  She just missed at GP while doing all of the heavy lifting and I think she just gets better from that race.

I’ll go way outside and put Reminisce in the third spot.  She had a rough go of it in the Appalachian and we see a few from that race here.  I think she can settle and make her patented big run down the lane, and get in the money.

There’s a ton of nice horseflesh in this one, so let’s get a good seat and see how it goes.

Here’s The Field –

1
Forty Chai  Estero Farms  Gutierrez Mario 122 3/1

That’s three in a row after looking good taking down the Appalachian (GII) at KEE last out.  Got home in quick time and has been working like a grizzly bear.  If she runs back to that last out race you have to put her in the thick of this one.

2
 Slipdamaloo  Aer Stables  Pennington F 122 4/1

Three wins from six starts as a 2yo including the Natalma Stakes (GI) at WO.  She is still looking for her first win this season after a fifth and a third vs. graded company.  She certainly has ability and must be considered a major threat today.

3
 Sweetness  High Voltage  Velazquez J R 122 7/2

Upset the apple cart in the Providencia Stakes (GIII) at SA last out, winning at 17/1 odds and that was a very nice field.  Also took that CAC Oaks on the SA turf, so she’s two-for-three this year and smells blood in the water here.

4
Lettuce Party  Chili King Stables  Wilson E J 122 7/1

Back to back wins while running for a tag, first against maidens and in N2L both of those on the SoCal lawn.  She sold after that last out win and the new barn goes right over to the deep end of the pool.  Obviously, she can run, but is this asking too much?

 Unmistakable  Mb Stables  Tunon M 122 6/1

I’m keep getting on her bandwagon and she keeps breaking my heart.  Only a maiden win but the big barn keeps bringing her back to this type of company where she has a few thirds but hasn’t really been a dominating type.  Still, you have to fear any of these horses and I’ll live to regret skipping her today.

6
 Beggars Benison  Team 7 Illusions  Gaffalione T 122 4/1

Nice second facing black type horses for the first time when second in SFla at GP in the Sanibel Island.  She’s been competitive in almost every start and could certainly be around for part of this one.  This well bred filly looks like she has a bright future.

7
Pirate Petranella  Diablo Diablo  Davis D 122 7/1

She had four wins in a row including a nice win on BC Day, then that last out was an absolute dud.  Eighth of nine at KEE and she just never got anything going that afternoon.  Just a bounce or…  I guess we find out today.

8
 Prada  Team 7 Illusions  Vargas J A Jr 122 4/1

Hard knocking filly has been a just-missed this season after a second on SSM Day then last out in the FL Oaks (GIII).  She had the lead turning for home in both of those, so she has to hunker down and find a bit more in the late going if she wants to get her picture taken.

9
Too Scared To Party  Martyparty  Bejarano R 122 7/2

She comes ready to do battle every time she loads into the gate.  Won The Sweet Chant (GIII) at GP two back and just missed by a neck in the Appalachian (GII) at KEE in her most recent.  Three wins from five starts with a second and a third… yeah, she know how to bring home a check.

10
Goblin Judge  Wood Duck Stables  Rosado R J 122 8/1

Another that has never been off of the board in five lifetime starts but  she’s been facing much softer than what she will see here today.  Nice win at PEN taking down state-bred Alw types, but the post does her no favors and this field is tough.

11
 Reminisce  Mb Stables  Beschizza A 122 7/1

Stuck in the outside post but she’s won from the twelve hole… maybe she likes it out here.  Sixth in the Appalachian (GII) at KEE and faces many of the same.  With that being said, she won the FL Oaks (GIII) and sees a few familiar faces from that one as well.  Who do we get in this one?
