Main Flirt was making her two-turn debut in Saturday’s $400.000 G2 Golden Rod at CD against a field where all of her rivals had previous experience doing so.  Turned out experience was overrated.  Main Flirt saved ground on the rail until just before the top of the lane before unleashing a powerful move to take the 8.5 furlong contest for juvenile fillies.  With the win, Main Flirt secured 10 points towards next spring’s G1 KYO and improved her record to 4-3-0-0 with earnings of $291.000.

At the break, it was Cb Lady from the rail and Ship House from the outside disputing the pace.  They were followed by a second-tier of Say Bye Bye, Main Flirt, Bella Chica, and Neon Moon.  Cb Lady held a slim advantage through an opening quarter that went in :23.82 before Ship House was able to hold a brief lead in between checkpoints.

Cb Lady was back in front by a half-length when she passed four fulongs in :47.33 with Ship House still pressuring her from the outside.  Say Bye Bye was two lengths behind them with Main Flirt and Bella Chica trying to get in position to strike.  As the field reached the far turn, Say Bye Bye and Bella Chica maneuvered to the outside while Main Flirt stayed down on the inside.  That would prove crucial in determining the outcome.

Reaching six furlongs in 1:10.95, Cb Lady was a full length in front of Ship House.  Say Bye Bye was moving to the three or four path, but Main Flirt was making-up ground from down on the inside.  Bella Chica was tipping even wider than Say Bye Bye as she appeared poised to launch her bid.  Nearing the furlong pole, Main Flirt started ramping-up the pressure on Cb Lady from the leader’s inside while Say Bye Bye was doing the same from her outside.

Main Flirt ran as if she was glued to the inside and took over the lead with 150 yards to the wire, but Say Bye Bye was determined to make her earn it.  At the wire, a length covered the top three with Main Flirt hitting the wire in 1:41.88.  Say Bye Bye was a half-length back and saved the place by that same margin over Bella Chica.  Cb Lady was a game fourth and was followed across the wire by Ship House, Verve, Neon Moon, and Local Model.  The top four were awarded 10-4-2-1 points, respectively, towards qualification for the G1 KYO.

Congratulations to Fractious and his filly, Main Flirt, for their victory in the $400.000 G2 Golden Rod at CD.
