San Diego Handicap – Grade II
1 1/16 Mile Dirt Graded Stake Purse $300.00 Three-Year-Olds-And-Upward. At DMR
1st Obi Wan Mb Stables *2-1 (HRP) *4-5 (SRF)
Well, we both thought Obi Wan would win. Difference is, the betting public thought he would win, and I thought he would really win. And then I got going on about him, ten lines! But it’s just so captivating, the number of times he’s brought home a check compared to his win strike. Anyway, win number five was just a day at the office. He came out of the gate second on his way to the lead, and by the time they were coming home, he drew clear to a two-length lead at the top of the lane and cruised home unassaulted.
2nd Maymun Mo Mentum Farm 2-1 (HRP) 4-1 (SRF)
Maymun was third pick, and yet, I wrote seventeen lines about him! I just couldn’t stop talking about the hand-changing path he took to get here and how it kept his value down. I think these races for Mo Mentum Farm are going to change all that. He stalked the field from well back until in the stretch and closed six lengths on the streaking Obi Wan.
2nd Mr Nobody TwinTowersRacing 10-1 (HRP) 10-1 (SRF)
Yep, TwinTowersRacing did it again! My $2.00 place bet pays off again. The horse may be Mr Nobody, but Tommy is Mr Somebody. I don’t know how he does it. Don’t wanna know. I prefer to believe in magic. Mr Nobody did it by getting involved in the speed duel from the outset and carrying it to the wire. Not bad for first stakes try at start number 26.
4th Forever Martian High Voltage 8-1 (HRP) 20-1 (SRF)
Forever Martian was claimed before this race for $9.50, but if you read my meticulously documented preview on this horse, you would know, this ain’t no $10.00 horse! With this fourth-place check, his bankroll has swelled to $713.84. Once a reliable stakes horse, he has been on the skids. Now, he displayed a little of the old glory by trailing the field into the stretch to make up five lengths and three positions.
